Henry Cavill’s acting as the Geralt of Rivia has turned into a journey loved by fans dearly. The third season of the series will mark the end of his journey as The Witcher will then officially be welcoming Liam Hemsworth as the replacement of the titular character. Henry Cavill already bid farewell to his beloved character with the upcoming season posing as his last one.
The third season’s teaser trailer was recently released. It put the fans in a dilemma on whether or not they should celebrate Cavill’s return to the series or dwell on how it would be the last time he would appear as Geralt. Netflix has, however, found a way to make the moment last longer and let the actor’s glory last for a bit more.
Henry Cavill’s The Witcher Season 3 Will Be Split In Two Parts
Netflix has not done this for the first time and many doubt that it would be the last. When it comes to milking the most out of what is the best, Netflix is first in line in stretching out its projects. Stranger Things, You, and now The Witcher, are just a few that the streaming service has tried to extend in order to keep its viewership going. There have been many shows and movies outside of Netflix that have also taken use of this concept. Especially Attack on Titan. The concept of splitting the final season or movie in two is very common. However, it is not common when the project is still ongoing.
Although The Witcher will continue after the upcoming season, the third season marks the end of Henry Cavill‘s run as Geralt of Rivia. The latest teaser of the newest season has confirmed that Netflix has indeed divided the season into two. These two parts are referred to as volumes and while the first volume will consist of five episodes, the second volume will only hold three episodes. Afterward, Liam Hemsworth will hold Cavill’s mantel.
Could Netflix Doubt Liam Hemsworth’s Potential?
The process of splitting movies or seasons of projects is generally seen when there is no potential way that the project will be returning. Netflix has shown this process in a more broken manner. The streaming service instead, uses this method right before the final season is set to air. The same was seen with shows like You and Stranger Things. The response to Henry Cavill’s character being taken over by Liam Hemsworth had been far from kind.
With the fans not looking forward to the fourth season, there could be a heavy chance that Hemsworth’s season will also mark the end of The Witcher all over. If that does become the case, then it would seem as if Netflix does not have a lot of faith in the success of the first season that the Hunger Games actor takes over.
The first volume of The Witcher will premiere on Netflix on 29th June 2023 with the second volume following suit on 27th July 2023.
