At this point, it is hard to imagine the DC co-CEO’s game plan to rebuild the DC Universe after major setbacks following the failure of a series of movies which includes the most recent, Ezra Miller’s The Flash. But Gunn is certainly all in for a newer version of DC with new faces.

DC Universe Got More New Cast

Three new actors are set to join James Gunn’s DC Universe. James Gunn-directed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Suicide Squad’s Nathan Fillion have joined the studio to play Guy Gardner, popularly known as Green Lantern. 22-year-old Isabela Merced who appeared in Sweet Girl, Sicario: Day of the Soldado, and Dora and the Lost City of Gold will play Hawkgirl— a DC character created by writer Gardner Fox and artist Dennis Neville, appeared first in  Flash Comics #1. X-Men: First Class, Caged, and The Blacklist actor Edi Gathegi will play the superhero Michael Holt aka Mister Terrific.

Reflecting on the new casts, industry expert Grace Randolph, however, showed some concern. “This is not inspired casting, and seems like an old school B (or C) level superhero movie – but the movie could still be good,” Randolph wrote on Twitter.

But Gunn appears to be keen on launching a completely new DC universe with new casts and several unexplored characters and stories in cinematic form. The studio is in full swing bringing new casts onboard. Earlier, The Flash director Andrés Muschietti was confirmed to direct the new Batman movie, The Brave and the Bold. While revealing plans for DC, Gunn earlier said that they were in the process of groundwork, “We sat down in a room for a few days and we started to bash out what the basic overall plan could be.”

“Not so much that it ties your wrists, but enough that we know what the basic story is, where we’re going. And it’s something that we’ll continue to do.”

Evidently, Gunn and Peter Safran may be set to bring a brand-new DC Universe. Of course, The Flash was not a movie that was planned or shot during their tenure, so, it would be too early to judge the duo based on the performance of Ezra Miller’s movie.

Writer-director Gunn’s Superman: Legacy seems on track while moving forward with the production planning. The three new casts joined the brand-new Superman movie alongside the earlier confirmed David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as the Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane indicating the progress of the movie. Earlier, Safran said that Superman: Legacy will set up the base of “the start of the DCU.”

“It focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old-fashioned.”

Superman: Legacy has already been one of the most hyped movies since its announcement and the movie has been on and off the news ever since. “Superman’ is for everyone,” Gunn said earlier. “That’s a four quadrant film that should speak to everyone in the world,” he added.

As Fillion joined the cast as Green Lantern, he might be in the lead in DCU’s Max series Lanterns. New updates on the series are still under wraps.

Rosaline star Merced shared an image of Hawkgirl showing her excitement about being cast in the DCU. “@jamesgunn gave me the best birthday gift,” she wrote in the caption as she turned 22 on July 10th.
