The Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for its interconnected storylines inside a bigger world, and sometimes, questions from one movie get addressed in another subsequent film or series. That goes to show how ingenious the writers at Marvel Studios are.

Still, one plot hole has never been tackled even in the past few movies that were released in the last two years. Fans who have seen Marvel’s Eternals would know that the giant lingering question pertains to the Celestial Emergence.

Joe Russo Reminded Fans About Forgotten MCU Plot Hole

Joe Russo recently posted on Twitter/X about how Marvel Studios never addressed the intriguing plot hole in Eternals. He wrote:

There’s been seven Marvel movies since ETERNALS and STILL nobody in the MCU is talking about this thing…

The Celestial plot hole was somehow hinted at in She-Hulk Episode 2. Jennifer Walters (played by Tatiana Maslany) used her computer and the website she was browsing was shown on camera. An article linked on the website had the headline: ‘Why There Is A Giant Statue Of A Man Sticking Out Of The Ocean.’

This scene was a reference to Eternals’ Celestial Tiamut. Still, it was not an explanation but a hint that even people inside the MCU are curious to know about the mystery just as much as the viewers are.

Now, it seems Marvel Studios is ignoring this storyline. Brie Larson’s newest project, The Marvels, did not even tackle it. The Emergence is not a major event as massive as The Blip, but if the franchise introduces something like a giant statue popping out of the ocean, there needs to be some sort of explanation.

Eternals is an important part of the Marvel universe, though the audience’s reception towards the movie could be a factor as to why the studio keeps brushing this under the rug. It even became one of the worst-performing MCU films of all time.

The Marvels Could Have Made A Reference To The Celestial

The Marvels had the chance to address the issue because of Nick Fury’s SABER space station situated outside Earth’s atmosphere. Indeed, it featured shots of Earth from space. With that opportunity, the movie could have shown any of the dead Celestial just to remind fans that they have not forgotten about it.

MCU would not be putting a giant robot carcass popping out of the ocean and simply disregard what is now called the elephant in the room. Hopefully, in the next few Marvel films, fans will finally get the answers they deserve.
