Renowned filmmaker Martin Scorsese has been quite open about his view on the popular superhero franchise MCU. His critical remarks about the MCU have led to a seemingly endless discussion. And the Avengers: Endgame director Joe Russo is the new name in the mix. The name behind some of the best MCU movies, including Infinity War and Endgame, recently shared a short video on Instagram.
While he addressed a common factor between him and the Oscar-winning filmmaker in the playful video, it did not sit well with Scorsese fans, who did not hesitate to call out the Cherry director.
Avengers: Endgame Director Playfully Addressed Martin Scorsese
Martin Scorsese recently went viral on TikTok for taking the audition of an exceptional actor, who turned out to be his family dog, Oscar. It has been followed by a short video from Joe Russo. Including a snippet from Scorsese’s video, Russo shares in the video that both of them have a schnauzer, saying,
“Aw look, he’s got a schnauzer. I love schnauzers. And his name is Oscar. That’s really cute. Oscar.” [Then he holds his own schnauzer and says] Alright, come on, Box Office.”
The Electric State director seemingly refers to the Goodfellas director’s Academy Award nominations and wins as he points out his dog’s name. And Russo’s dog name, “Box Office,” seems to be a reference to the financial success of his movies, including the $2.8 billion movie Avengers: Endgame, which briefly became the highest-grossing film of all time.

“It appears we have the same muse…,” he said in the Instagram post’s caption, mentioning the Killers of the Flower Moon director. However, the short clip has not landed on the right side of Scorsese’s fans amid the Marvel vs Scorsese situation, leading the Marvel director to face a backlash on social media.
Fans React to Joe Russo’s Short Clip
Joe Russo is not the first director or actor associated with the MCU to get involved in the Marvel vs Scorsese debate. Mark Ruffalo, Robert Downey Jr., Joss Whedon, James Gunn, and many others have also joined the conversation.
And Russo is now facing the wrath of fans after he shared the clip. Many are claiming that the Marvel director is taking a dig at the Oscar-winning filmmaker. The fans are calling him out, saying that he would never “reach Martin Scorsese’s level.” Many also stated that Avengers: Endgame was “trash” compared to Scorsese’s work in Hollywood.

Martin Scorsese initially shared his critical thoughts about the MCU in a 2019 interview with the New York Times, saying that he doesn’t think “they’re cinema.” The filmmaker once again shared his thoughts on the same during a recent interview with GQ as he shared concerns regarding such movies’ impact on “our culture.”
