It was in September 2001, when one fine afternoon the Gloria actress had what she described as a “lightning bolt” to her head. As per what she told Brain and Life, it was so strong and painful that it knocked her to the ground and made her unconscious. Sharon Stone, somehow, came to the other side of the sofa and stood up. She still had a tough headache that made her feel confused. In a few weeks, she knew that what she described as a lightning bolt was actually her brain that was hemorrhaging because of a ruptured vertebral artery.

From her vivid memories, she has got of the life-changing incident, Stone remembers calling her mother from the hospital. Expressing herself more about her near-death episode, the Tears in the Rain actor told to Today

“The room was so silent. When the room is so silent and no one’s running around trying to fix you, that’s when you realize how near death is and how serious everything is.”

Joking about her condition she further said,

“I found out that I wasn’t the only one who’d had this kind of experience. It’s so profound. And I know that scientists feel that it’s a scientific thing that happens. And spiritualists believe that it’s a spiritual thing. Personally, I’m with (Albert) Einstein, who believed that it’s both.”

This was a huge setback for her career that literally dragged her seven years back. Once she was at the top of the charts and now she has been calling herself a ‘disability hire.’

“I lost everything. I lost all my money. I lost custody of my child. I lost my career. I lost all those things that you feel are your real identity and your life.”

She kept on expressing what she kept inside of her for the past years and spoke out,

“I never really got most of it back. But I’ve reached a point where I’m okay with it, where I really do recognize that I’m enough.”

As per her words in another interview with People again,

“I need eight hours of uninterrupted sleep for my brain medication to work so that I don’t have seizures. So I’m a disability hire, and because of that, I don’t get hired a lot. These are the things that I’ve been dealing with for the past 22 years, and I am open about that now.”

One thing is for sure, she might have lost a lot and all those things that were close to her but she discovered herself and she discovered her tough side. The strongest woman with an unshakable will, Sharon Stone.
