Eiichiro Oda likes to take inspiration from real-life events for One Piece. There are several instances where the islands represented different countries; Water Seven was based on Venice with waterways used for traversing the city, and the Land of Wano was inspired by Japan. But there are a few things that Oda sensei did not take any inspiration for.
One such creation is Charlotte Linlin, popularly known as Big Mom. Big Mom was one of the Yonko and had a powerful fleet. She is one of the few characters that is the One Piece creator afraid of. Due to her lust for power, she can go to any extent, and that is what scares him. Apart from that, there is another reason why he is afraid of her.
Big Mom’s Biggest Strength Are Her Children
The Whole Cake Island arc featured the clash between the Straw Hat Pirates and the Big Mom Pirates. It proved to be an introductory arc for one of the Yonko. The arc revealed that Big Mom has 85 children. 46 of them are sons, and the rest are daughters. The numbers are mind-boggling, but Eiichiro Oda revealed in One Piece Volume 90 SBS how she was able to pull off this impossible task.
Fans were eager to know how many ex-husbands she had and how she chose them. They thought it to be blind dates. But Oda sensei’s answer was shocking as well as frightening. Oda sensei said, “She’s a pirate. She stole them. She had kids with them and threw them away!! Her only objective was to have as many children from as many races as possible. A truly frightening woman.”
Most of Big Mom’s children are from different races. Pudding was conceived with one of the members of the Three-Eye Tribe. The Three-Eye Tribe specializes in reading the Poneglyphs. So, Charlotte Pudding was conceived with the motive of helping her mother reach Laughtale by reading the inscription on the poneglyphs. In a way, the children are Big Mom’s true strengths.
Eiichiro Oda Is Afraid Of Big Mom
To gain power, Big Mom can go to any extent. She is only loyal to power and nothing else. Being a human, she always tried to have physical relationships with different people belonging to different races. It diversified his kingdom since all of them were hybrid humans. But the frightening part was that after conceiving the babies, she would discard their fathers. Charlotte Chiffon and Charlotte Lola’s father, Pound, somehow escaped and wandered the Seducing Woods.
Her tendency to jump from one person to another made Eiichiro Oda pretty scared of her. The only tribe she did not get hold of was the Lunarian Tribe. It is a form of physical abuse, and since she is a Yonko, no one can raise their voice against her. Charlotte Linlin was a pretty woman in her earlier days, and most men fell prey to it.
The way Eiichiro Oda mentioned being afraid of her, clearly indicates that he was also fond of her beauty. But Big Mom is a beauty with brains and cunningness. Even though Oda sensei created her, her character and behavior are hostile towards other men, whom she sees only as a means of increasing her lineage and empire. So, the One Piece creator is better off living in reality.
