Jada Pinkett Smith recently had a conversation with Hoda Kotb on NBC’s Today show about her upcoming memoir, Worthy, which will be released on October 17.
The Collateral actress, 52, spoke about a variety of topics, including her marriage to actor Will Smith and his infamous slap at the 2022 Academy Awards. The revelation that she and her husband have been living separate lives since 2016 is among the shocking revelations she made during her interview. Due to this, the mother of two has come under fire for allegedly using her private life for financial gain.
Following her shocking confession, The View‘s co-host Ana Navarro, allegedly accused the talk show host of using her marital issues to make money.
Ana Navarro Of The View Blasted Jada Pinkett Smith
When it came to Jada Pinkett Smith‘s recent announcement that she and Will Smith had been secretly separated for seven years, The View’s co-host Ana Navarro did not hold back.
After Pinkett Smith’s NBC News prime-time special with Hoda Kotb on Today Show revealed that she and Smith have been leading “completely separate lives” since 2016, Navarro wasted no time in accusing the 52-year-old actress on an episode of The View.
The Girls Trip star was accused by the co-host of using juicy details about her nearly 20-year marriage to Smith, 55, to promote her upcoming book Worthy. The latter suggested on The View:
“I think she’s having a relationship with her bank account. Every time she needs to increase the ratings of ‘Red Table Talk,’ every time she needs to sell books, she drops these bombshells. I find it unseemly.”
Navarro, 51, added:
“I will tell you this: be careful of anybody who pretends to have a perfect marriage.”
Not everybody agreed with Navarro. Pinkett Smith’s timing was described as “smart” by Joy Behar during the talk show’s segment, while Sunny Hostin defended the Matrix star and praised her bravery. Hostin shared:
“It’s a memoir, though, and she writes in her memoir that they’ve been separated for all of that time.I think it’s a brave thing to do. I think it’s a courageous thing to do. I think it has less to do with money. She has plenty.”
Jada Pinkett Smith on Her Marriage, and the Oscar Slap
In a recent interview with People, Jada Pinkett Smith opened up about the infamous slap, saying she believed her husband slapping Chris Rock onstage during the Academy Awards 2022 was just a “skit”:
“I thought, ‘This is a skit.’ “
She initially did not think it was real, like many other people who were watching the incident unfold on live television. Pinkett Smith, 52, shared:
“I was like, ‘There’s no way that Will hit him.’ It wasn’t until Will started to walk back to his chair that I even realized it wasn’t a skit.”
She also covered a wide range of other subjects, including her challenging childhood and their difficult marriage:
“I’m going to be by his [Will Smith] side but also allow him to have to figure this out for himself.”
According to the actress, their marriage is in a bad place. She claimed that before the Oscars in 2022, they had been apart for six years and further added:
“We’re still figuring it out. We’ve been doing some really heavy-duty work together. We just got deep love for each other and we are going to figure out what that looks like for us.”
The couple shared two kids.
In her autobiography, Worthy, Pinkett Smith has provided an honest account of her journey while also going into detail about her friendship with rapper Tupac Shakur.
Worthy will be available on Tuesday, October 17.
