The ultimate 90s power couple Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman ended their 11-year marriage in 2001 shocking the entire industry and fans. The couple who were thought to be extremely in love turned into sensational news overnight because of the unexpected split announcement.
However, even though the reason behind their separation was kept strictly private, there were rumors spreading around as to what became the point of no return in their marriage. With the public scrutiny already in full throttle, what did not help was a joke Nicole Kidman made about Tom Cruise in an interview following their split.
Although many have applauded her for her humor, there are others who seem to disagree with that sentiment. Interestingly, all that controversy is being brought back once again with the news of Tom Cruise setting his eyes on Shakira and the not-so-subtle connection this blooming relationship has with Kidman’s remark from decades ago.

Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise met while filming for their first movie together, Days of Thunder. Although Cruise was still married to Mimi Rogers at the time they were allegedly so taken by each other that they tied the knot immediately after Tom Cruise’s split from his first wife.
The couple went on to adopt two children together during the course of their marriage, and while the perfect family had a decade of a blissful life together, it, unfortunately, did not last. In 2001, they finalized their divorce citing “irreconcilable differences,” although the speculation was that it was the Big Little Lies star’s refusal to join the Church of Scientology that ended their marriage.
This was proven true later over the years with Kidman being estranged from her children with Tom Cruise as the practicing members of the religion are barred from having connections with ex-communicators.
However, even with all these bits and pieces of information what became another sensational news after their split was Nicole Kidman mocking Tom Cruise’s height in an Interview. Basically, the Australian actress boasts a height of 5’9 while the Mission: Impossible star stands at 5’7. Kidman referring to that in an interview joked, “Well I can wear heels now.”
While the interviewer and the on-set crew burst into laughter with her along with numerous fans online, this obviously did not sit very well with a lot of Cruise’s fans along with his close ones. Interestingly, this old debate is now being brought back with Tom Cruise allegedly pursuing Shakira with people returning the barb to Kidman.
Tom Cruise is set on wooing Shakira
Shakira is currently settled in Miami with her children following her very public and very messy separation from footballer Gerard Piqué. And a recent photo of her hanging out with Tom Cruise in the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Miami has been making the rounds in the industry.
A source close to Cruise reportedly told Page Six recently, “He is extremely interested in pursuing her.” They also added, “Shakira needs a soft pillow to fall on, and that could be Tom.” According to them, Tom Cruise comes with the advantage of being, “a nice-looking guy, and he is talented.”
So, they are allegedly trying to explore this connection as “There is chemistry.” According to the source, Cruise was apparently so taken with the Colombian pop star that he sent her flowers.
And after they were spotted spending time on the Formula 1 race’s starting grid and even having a quality time in a private hospitality suite, things seem to be going quite well between them. Moreover, the source quipped, “And she isn’t taller than him.”
Well, it is yet to be seen whether something substantial comes from this connection between 5’7 Top Gun star Tom Cruise and 5’2 “Queen of Latin Music” Shakira, as no official confirmations have been made yet from either of them.
However, this has sure made a lot of fans extremely happy as the pair is thought to be growing closer by the day.
