After playing Martha and Jonathan Kent in Henry Cavill’s 2013 DC flick Man of Steel, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane reappeared as husband and wife for their 2020 Western thriller Let Him Go. According to Costner, working with Lane in the DC movie, for a brief period, made him want to collaborate once again.
Therefore, holding Diane Lane in his highest regard, Kevin Costner praised the actress and opened up about his work experience alongside her. Although the 2020 movie is completely unrelated to their work in the DCEU as Ma and Pa Kent, it did inspire the duo to reunite once again as husband and wife.
Kevin Costner and Diane Lane Reappeared as an Onscreen Couple
Kevin Costner and Diane Lane initially collaborated as onscreen husband and wife in the 2013 DC movie Man of Steel. Following their appearance as parents to Henry Cavill’s Superman, Costner and Lane became the fan-favorite Ma and Pa to Kal-El. However, following their appearance in Zack Snyder’s movie, the duo reappeared as a couple in 2020.
Sharing the screen for the second time, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane played the role of retired sheriff George and his wife Martha in the western thriller Let Him Go. Following the storyline of an elderly couple who try to rescue their grandson from the dangerous Weboy clan living off-the-grid, Costner and Lane earned rave reviews.
Although initially, after watching Kevin Costner and Diane Lane share the screen as husband and wife, people expected the 2020 movie to be a Man of Steel spin-off, but unfortunately it’s not. However, the 2013 DC movie did play a major role in bringing the actors together, as Costner admitted being inspired to work with Lane, after their DC project.
Kevin Costner Praised Diane Lane for Her Work in Man of Steel
Speaking with EW in 2020 ahead of the film’s release, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane initially began by explaining that Let Him Go isn’t a spin-off of the 2013 DC movie. According to reports, as Lane reappeared in the western thriller as Costner’s wife Martha, just like Man of Steel, fans expected the movie to be a spin-off.
However, while Let Him Go has nothing to do with the DCEU, Kevin Costner credited his collaboration with Diane Lane in the 2013 movie as something that inspired him to work together once more. Therefore, holding the actress in his highest regard, Costner began praising Lane and speaking about his work experience.
“Well, number one, she’s a world-class actress, I think. She’s one of the best that we’ve ever had. There’s just no doubt about it. You can go to the Golden Age of Hollywood, and I would stack her up against any of the Barbara Stanwycks and the Hepburns.”
“We felt like we only worked together for a minute on [Man of Steel], but the promise of what could be wasn’t going to be extended in that particular movie, so this was an interesting way to circle back. And she’s very dynamic in a very difficult role.”
It seems since Kevin Costner had a small role in Man of Steel, which didn’t allow him to work as much with Diane Lane as he wanted to, the actor grabbed the next opportunity he got to share the screen with Lane.
Let Him Go is available on Apple TV.
