Hollywood’s legendary actress Angelina Jolie was once called not “sentimentally appealing” by Hollywood historians due to her choices to only portray action roles. Having a strong persona of hers both on and off screen, the actress was tagged as being “too forceful” to portray any other roles.

Although the statements were pretty rude, the historian did call Angelina Jolie an “anomaly” since she had the power to attain the salary of a male equivalent individual in the film-making industry. Owing to her presence, Jolie does have quite a few notable and iconic roles that wouldn’t have been portrayed so well otherwise.

When Angelina Jolie Was Called “Too Forceful”

With her iconic role as Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider franchise and several other action roles, Angelina Jolie has always been looked upon as a fighter while on a hunt for the next prey. It has been reported that Jolie has been seen in very few movies wherein she portrays a submissive character.

Part of the reason that she gets offered such action-heavy roles is that the actress has been deemed as being “too forceful”. As per Hollywood historian David Thomson, Angelina Jolie boasts a very strong persona both on and off-screen, and hence she gets these strong roles. The historian, however, went as far as to call out Jolie for not being sentimentally appealing to the people.

“She’s too strong, she’s too forceful. And that’s not just her screen character. It’s her public character, too. She’s not got that sort of availability for romance. She isn’t really sentimentally appealing. She needs to be doing strong things — crazy things, sometimes — to work on screen.”

Requiring no further proof for these statements, Jolie claimed that she was offered the role of being a Bond girl personally without the need for an audition. She declined the opportunity since she wanted to play the character of Bond herself and not just be a sidekick!

Well, the above-mentioned statements were indeed given with proof since Angelina Jolie herself talked about her problem while portraying the role of a Bond girl. Back in 2006, Angelina Jolie was offered the role of Vesper Lynd in Casino Royale. The Eternals actress outright refused the opportunity and instead stated that she would much rather love to portray the main character of James Bond.

“It started with a call from Amy [Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures], She asked if I wanted to play a Bond girl. I said, ‘No, I’m not comfortable with that, but I would like to play Bond.'”

The actress did get her wish since she was soon offered the lead role in the 2007 movie Wanted. With many more actionable roles in the future, Jolie’s Hollywood career looks stronger than ever as people embrace the action heroine even in her later years.
