Shia LaBeouf Regrets Making Honey Boy

Shia LaBeouf has been exposed to the film industry from a young age and he has only gotten better with time. He has a long and successful career in entertainment. The actor made a semi-autobiographical, Honey Boy in 2019, which was a cinematic gem and his career’s best film. The film gave the viewers a glimpse of his rough childhood and the shaky relationship with his father, and the film was a hit both commercially and critically.

The film earned $3.4 million at the worldwide box office and was praised highly by the critics. While the actor was a guest on REAL ONES with Jon Bernthalhe talked about the regrets he has in his life, sharing them with the host. He stated how he regrets making Honey Boy, as the film wrongly portrays his father than he is in real life, adding that he has been “loving to me my whole life.”

“Here’s a man who I’ve done vilified on a grand scale…I wrote this narrative, which was just f**king nonsense. My dad was so loving to me my whole life. Fractured, sure. Crooked, sure. Wonky, for sure. But never was not loving, never was not there. He was always there… and I’d done a world press tour about how f**ked he was as a man”. 

Shia LaBeouf added that his 2019 masterpiece is a big “woe” to him, as with each day he regrets making the film which showcases his father as a person that he is not.

“Honey Boy is basically a big ‘woe is me’ story about how f**ked my father is, and I wronged him…I turned the knob up on certain sh*t that wasn’t real. My dad never hit me, never. He spanked me once, one time”. 

While it is clear that the actor regrets making the film and showcasing his father as a dark and twisted person, who abused his child. But, on the other hand, he is probably one of the few people who have sensationalized a story in the name of art and took things a little too far.

Shia LaBeouf Regrets His Past Behavior and Actions

The Transformers actor is one of the A-tier celebrities who has faced career setbacks due to his prior alcohol addiction and bad temperament often landing him in legal trouble. During an exclusive interview with the Guardian, LaBeouf shares how much he regrets his past actions where he had run-ins with the law, and how alcoholism made his life a mess. As a result, his addiction and personal life problems started to affect his acting career.

But he decided to change his life when working in The Peanut Butter Falcon, and his co-star Zack Gottsagen helped him to change his life. The young actor suffered from Down syndrome and was mad at the actor for throwing away his successful career. LaBeouf mentioned how he saw “a sense of truth to Gottsagen on screen he was desperate to act opposite”. And he expressed the guilt and shame that he felt for making a joke of his career.

“I can’t look anyone in the eye. And I can’t come to terms with it. And no one’s talking to me and I’m talking to no one, and I know my life has exploded again. And I am in deep shame.”

Shia LaBeouf is immensely grateful to his young co-star, who inspired and motivated him to turn his life around, and he will remain forever grateful to him for that.
