Helldivers 2 has taken the world by storm, and the players on both PlayStation 5 and PC can’t get enough. The original Helldivers was released in 2015 and was a top-down shooter multiplayer title, this time the developers at Arrowhead Game Studios opted for a more immersive and realistic experience and made the sequel as a third-person shooter.
The goal was to give players the most immersive and believable gaming experience according to CEO Johan Pilestedt as he explained the changes the team has made from the predecessor. War is a chaotic mess especially if soldiers are being deployed to face an extraterrestrial threat from different planets, Arrowhead Games is faced with the daunting task of balancing science fiction with realism.
The Believability Factor In Helldivers 2 Need To Be Perfect
Pilestedt also mentioned that the inclusion of friendly fire was intentional, it is an inescapable and unfortunate mishap that happens in real-life combat scenarios. This will also pose a challenge for trigger-happy allies that shoot first before assessing the situation, and maybe players can get a good laugh over accidental misfires.
There is a justified reason behind this and it comes down to logic, bullets can kill anything and if the player’s bullets can destroy their enemies then it only makes sense that the same bullets can harm fellow Helldivers. The inclusion of friendly fire will allow players to check their surroundings before unloading their overpowered rifles.
Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Wants Players To Feel The Heat Of War Through Helldivers 2
In most first-person shooter games like Call of Duty, the NPC allies in the older games were killable but doing so often will prompt a screen with some quotes and sayings by philosophers or world leaders. In Helldivers 2, it is a feature of the ferocious and deadly combat system, and the developers didn’t stop there as they added planetary hazards to make it even more harrowing.
Helldivers 2 is a rare success for the live service side of gaming, given that they rely on constant updates with new features and content that draw the attention of players, the team over at Arrowhead is more than ready and optimistic to power through and deliver.
Army veterans have experienced unfortunate instances of friendly fire that cost them a part of their lives they can’t hope to recover like their limbs, in a way, Pilestedt wanted to honor these heroes by teaching the players the important lesson of checking their shots and to be more mindful than usual to avoid it from ever happening.
Sometimes it can be humorous when there are players who are more committed to accomplishing the mission objectives. Helldivers 2 doesn’t romanticize warfare, it is a warning of what may come in a real firefight and why it should be avoided at all costs. Do you find Helldivers 2 to be believable?
