Helldivers 2 is already pure carnage and chaos, but the latest update last March 6th made the war even more chaotic. Planetary hazards are a new added feature, or challenge as other players claim, by Arrowhead Game Studios to bring more pressure. Others claim it is a nuisance to an already difficult game especially when the developers nerfed the firepower, but in reality, the feature is doing its purpose.
Helldivers 2 Planetary Hazards Are A Feature, Not A Bug
In the face of success, the shadow of issues is not far behind. Arrowhead Game Studios faced extreme backlash from their players after a heated exchange on their Discord server due to constant complaints. The game was meant to realize how chaotic and destructive extraterrestrial warfare could be, and the developers took it a little too seriously by emphasizing how dangerous the battlefield is, or how prone they are to being rained down with meteor showers.
War is messy, regardless if it is fictional or real life, and Helldivers 2 made sure players feel the gravity of the situation by nerfing weapons like the railgun in favor of a balance and to encourage teamwork and cooperation. However, the meteor shower is one of the few changes they may want to take a second look at.
The destructive capabilities are unparalleled, any unfortunate soul or object that is standing directly under its path is guaranteed for obliteration. Meteor showers can also help players accomplish mission objectives but the bizarre timing needs to be adjusted because they can eliminate players even as they respawn which is not good.
It may also seem like payback from developers after being mocked and harassed by players who are complaining over the difficulty and taking away their overpowered weapons, if so it is very amusing but also petty. The meteor showers randomly rain hellfire from above the battleground combined with the powerful enemies can result in a potent mix.
Arrowhead Game Studios Should Take Their Advice And Balance The Field More Fairly
Maybe the game can come across as a little challenging for casual gamers who prefer to have a more powerful arsenal at their disposal rather than a few comrades, but that is the opposite of what the game stands for. The goal of the studio is to provide players with an immersive experience and highlight the negativity of war.
The success of Helldivers 2 was a complete surprise to both Sony Interactive Entertainment and Arrowhead Game Studios, their rise in popularity has pushed them to go further and be more ambitious than their original road map. Fans are passionate and have ideas of their own, however, it is not an option nor a good idea for devs to cater to their every need, it will compromise the core of the game and Arrowhead is committed to the growth of the franchise.
