Silent Hill is one of the most popular horror games and Konami announced last year that it is working on resurrecting the series with new games including a Silent Hill 2 Remake. Bloober Team is at the helm developing the game, but no other significant information is known so far.
There has mostly been radio silence about the game from both developer and publisher. However, it seems like there might be some news coming about the game soon and other Silent Hill titles, as the producer of the series has teased that players can expect an update next year.
An Update on Silent Hill 2 Remake is Coming Soon
Konami announced the Silent Hill 2 Remake via a teaser trailer in October 2022, and revealed that the game is in development at Bloober Team. It will feature enhanced visuals and will be a completely overhauled game that will build on the scary atmosphere in Maine. The title will also bring new gameplay features and elements that grip players psychologically.
There hasn’t been much information about the game other than Bloober Team has asked players to be patient, saying that the wait will be worthwhile. Now, the series producer has teased that an update on the Silent Hill 2 Remake and other games is coming soon, possibly early next year. While speaking to 4Gamer.net about aspirations for 2024, Hajime Okamoto stated:
First of all, this year we distributed “SILENT HILL: Ascension”, a new format of interactive streaming that is not a game. You can enjoy “SILENT HILL”, which has a TV drama-like story.
And in 2024, we will finally liven it up with games. First of all, I would like to give you a new update. Fans, please wait a little longer.
Back in November 2023, developer Bloober released a statement and asked fans to be patient, saying that the game’s development is going smoothly and according to schedule. The developer also said that it wants the game to have the highest quality and Konami, as the game’s publisher, will soon share more information about the game.
However, considering Okamoto’s comments, fans could soon get an update on the game next year and possibly a release date. It is also speculated that the game might be released in time for Halloween 2024, just like Ascension. Okamato mentioned “games” so it can be expected that information about other SH projects could also be revealed alongside the remake.
One of the major reasons behind the delay in any news about the game could be the overwhelmingly negative reviews that Konami received for the first project, Silent Hill Ascension, which would have put pressure on the publisher. Ascension is an interactive streaming series that premiered on Halloween where players’ decisions affect the canon of the series.
The series failed miserably and was criticized for mediocre story, bad animations, in-game economy, and many also alleged it to be a cash grab. Another major factor could be that SH2 Remake is the remake of the best horror game out there. The developer would want to retain the original elements that got it universal acclaim and how it could do better than the original title.
There are several other SH games under development including Silent Hill f, a new mainline installment in the series that is set in 1960s Japan, and Silent Hill Townfall, another title that is in development at No Code and will be published by Annapurna Interactive. The developer also recently teased an update on the game via a X/Twitter thread saying that new people have joined the project and it is still working on the “nightmare.”
No Code added that although it could provide no news on the game this year, there will be updates next year, and players must be patient until then. Silent Hill 2 Remake does not have any specific release date, but it is expected to arrive sometime in 2024, and players might get some good news about the game soon.
