Sir Ian McKellen marked his Marvel debut with 2000’s film X-Men. The actor appeared in the role of Erik Lehnsherr, a.k.a. Magneto, which was well acclaimed by the audience. While the other cast members of the film made their comeback to the franchise, McKellen was long lost after last appearing in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

However, now the wait seems to be over, as McKellen might reprise his role as Magneto alongside Elizabeth Olsen, who is known for playing the role of Wanda Maximoff. For the unversed, Olsen previously claimed in an interview that she wouldn’t return as Wanda in the near future. Yet according to some sources, fans can expect her to return for some spin-off projects.

Elizabeth Olsen is popularly known for playing the role of Wanda, a.k.a. The Scarlet Witch. Her character earned much love and acclamation from the audience; however, the character came to an end after she sacrificed herself. Olsen last appeared in the 2022 film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. After completing almost a decade in the MCU, Oslen is content with what she has contributed to the franchise. During an interview, when the actress was asked if she missed playing Wanda, she straight up said no. The actress said,

“I think it’s been almost 10 years of playing her. And I’ve loved it. And I think the reason why I am not calling Kevin Feige every day with ideas is because I’m really proud of what we were able to do. I think WandaVision was a really surprising opportunity. If someone were to tell me that I’m fired from Marvel movies, I will feel proud of what we made.”

However, it does seem like it’s done yet, as according to the sources, the actress may reprise her role for one last time in the upcoming Disney+ series Agatha: Coven of Chaos. The series is a WandaVision spin-off that focuses on the character Agatha Harkness, who is the main villain of WandaVision.

It has been reported that the MCU is planning to take a leap with Wanda’s story as it may explore various multiverse sagas. This follows the rumor that Wanda Maximoff might return in the upcoming Deadpool and Wolverine films.

According to the sources, Marvel might extend the story of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. While Marvel plans to explore the character of Wanda, there are chances it may reintroduce the character of Magneto, played by Sir Ian McKellen.

But what’s more interesting to know is what association Magneto will have with Wanda. Perhaps sources have the answer to it as well.

Sir Ian McKellen last appeared in X-Men: Days of Future Past, and ever since then, there has been no news about his return to the franchise. However, previously, his X-Men co-star Patrick Stewart claimed during an interview that “McKellen might be interested in coming back as well.”

And some of the sources have also claimed that McKellen may reprise his role as Magneto soon. The actor might depict the role of Wanda’s father. However, it’s not yet confirmed whether he will be playing his biological father or a guardian. Whatever it is, it’s thrilling to know that Magneto will finally mark its return.

However, it is important to note that all these theories are based on rumors; moreover, these rumors swirled before the writers’ and actors’ strikes commenced. So there are chances that there can be a change in the plan once the writers and actors return to their jobs.
