The Time Eiichiro Oda Claimed One Piece Would End in Five Years
On 31st August 2019, YouTube channel Fischer’s visited Eiichiro Oda‘s home. During this meeting, the author stated that he wanted to end the manga in five years of time. Later on, the editor of the manga revealed that he himself was suspicious whether the manga would end so soon. While the rapid development in the Wano Saga definitely sped up the procedure, an end is yet to be on the horizon.
Thus, exactly five years later, in 2024, when August 31 rolls by, fans remember the time when Oda claimed he would end One Piece in five years. It has almost become a joke now since it is visible that the manga will not end even after a year’s worth of chapters.
Currently, the Elbaf Arc has begun in the manga, and Oda has confirmed that One Piece has entered its final saga. But considering how long the sagas are in the franchise, you can be at peace that the manga will not end anytime soon. Still, it feels exciting and nostalgic at the same time to know that the story will wrap up soon as Oda has already begun placing every major character on the path of the titular treasure.
Eiichiro Oda Would Never Give One Piece a Rushed Ending
Several recent manga have been receiving rushed endings. From the Promised Neverland and Demon Slayer to even Bleach, many popular titles have ended with a rushed or incomplete plot. However, Eiichiro Oda is the one person who would never do that to his manga.
Eiichiro Oda is currently one of the biggest figures in the Shonen manga world, so editors might not be able to rush him even if One Piece experiences a temporary drop in ratings. On the other hand, Oda himself believes in a slow and gradual maturation of the plot, which means that the finale will be one of the greatest, even if it takes a long time to complete.
During the 2022 Jump Festa event, Oda even went as far as publicly confirming that One Piece will continue at its own pace. Fans need not worry because the author is already bound by his words. Despite being traumatized by Jujutsu Kaisen‘s sudden ending plan, you can put your faith in Oda.
