A surreal comedy about a company’s game-changing product is a description that can be used to describe both Unfrosted and Barbie. The former marks the directorial debut of comedian Jerry Seinfeld while the latter is one of the biggest commercial hits of 2023. As a result, Unfrosted should have borrowed some elements from Barbie, at least on paper.

“We really wanted to be the opposite of Barbie. We wanted to be, Kellogg’s would not make this to promote their product.”

Seinfeld made the above statement (via The Wrap) regarding his desire to make the film with almost little to no similarities with Barbie. Seinfeld added that the team avoided mentioning the brand’s name in the film to avoid any legal issues.

Seinfeld could have been referring to the aspect of Unfrosted, where the real company is not mentioned, unlike Barbie. However, Seinfeld’s comments also suggested a tonal difference from the $1.4 billion grossing film, alongside Seinfeld’s own brand of comedy which differs from the humor in Barbie.
