Jerry Seinfeld has been promoting his latest film Unfrosted with great dedication. The Netflix movie is to mark his directorial debut and thus holds great importance in the list of many achievements he has already established. Showering in fame, he has been going from one platform to another to further spread the news about his latest milestone.
Out of the many ideas he has come up with, there is one show in particular he holds close to his heart. FRIENDS has been one of the most influential and renowned sitcoms with its staggering success. Each and every cast member’s fame shot up in the blink of an eye. Everyone seemed pleased with the show, except for Seinfeld, who had quite the reason for it too.
Jerry Seinfeld Reignites His Grudge with FRIENDS
In an attempt to promote his upcoming film, Unfrosted, Jerry Seinfeld filmed a new short video with Pop-Tarts. It follows him going around different corporate offices of Kellogg because of trademark infringement. The plot of the short focuses on characters created by Seinfeld being ‘stolen’ as a form of revenge.
“They’re my characters now, Mr. Seinfeld,” Gasworth stated. “Tell me, how does it feel when people steal your ideas and then do whatever they want with them?”
Seinfeld then added, “You mean, like Friends?”
Kelman P. Gasworth, the fictional President then asked Seinfeld about how it feels to have something as precious as their ideas being stolen really feel like. The latter was in clear distress seeing his creations stand in boxes trapped and unable to escape.
Upon being thrown the question, instead of replying to it, Seinfeld chose to quip back with a sly remark. He pointed a finger at Matthew Perry’s iconic series, stating that he was the idea that the series stole from.
Jerry Seinfeld Blames FRIENDS for Stealing His Ideas
Lisa Kudrow, via Page Six, shared that Jerry Seinfeld had once peculiarly approached her at a party and congratulated her on the release of FRIENDS. He credited himself behind the show’s soaring success, stating that since the show was airing right after Seinfeld, a lot of its’ fanbase was able to witness Matthew Perry’s show.
“You’re on after us in the summer, and you’re welcome.”
Now with the latest promo for his upcoming film, the dig once again gets taken towards the series. This time, instead of taking the credit for the show, he seemingly chose to blame them for taking away ideas he so carefully came up with.
Seinfeld has his own fair share of popularity and accolades to back him up. FRIENDS standing on its own doesn’t sound much of a slip, come to think of it. However, this jab is certainly one that brings attention to the actor now that his movie is to premiere.
Unfrosted will be available to watch on Netflix from 3rd May 2024.
