Reportedly, Max also has plans to develop Harry Potter spinoff shows

J.K. Rowling sold over 600 million copies of her Wizarding World books, and the movies adapted from her books collectively grossed $7.7 billion globally. To say that Harry Potter is a successful franchise would be an understatement. However, it took more than a decade, and the success of a reunion special for HBO and Warner Bros. to recognize the potential of more storytelling in that universe.

After the exciting announcement on April 2023, the latest update comes from Deadline that the pitch meetings are happening for the series, with four writers in the final negotiations. The report further added that “Max is open to the possibility of developing more than one idea based on Harry Potter.” WB has earlier made it clear that they wouldn’t be touching the Fantastic Beasts IP, meaning that the spinoff series can be anything about any of the Harry Potter book-based characters.

Fans on X were over the moon to hear that they will not only get a more faithful book-based Harry Potter adaptation but also explore other Wizarding World stories. They began offering suggestions for potential spinoffs that HBO should consider. The most popular choice was a series about the Marauders, but someone also proposed a Voldemort spinoff. Other suggestions included a show about the Hogwarts Founders, one based on Frank and Alice Longbottom, and an adaptation of the Hogwarts Legacy game. Fan reactions read:

While J.K. Rowling’s involvement in the creative process remains unclear due to her recent unpopularity, she is expected to act as one of the executive producers. Brontë Film and TV, a production company under Rowling’s agent Neil Blair, will be involved as one of the producers along with Warner Bros. Television. David Heyman, the producer of the movies, may also come on board as an executive producer.
