Christopher Nolan has firmly established himself as one of the greatest directors in Hollywood history. His remarkable filmography has left an indelible mark, resonating across generations of movie lovers worldwide throughout the years. That being said, it appears a social media prankster was removed from the BAFTAs for crashing Oppenheimer’s Best Film speech.
Christopher Nolan, acclaimed for his contributions to cinema, enjoys unwavering support from film enthusiasts for works like his Batman trilogy and The Prestige. His penchant for pushing the creative boundaries in films is also noteworthy, which was very apparent in Oppenheimer, as it continues to win award after award everywhere.
Social Media Prankster Booted From The BAFTAs For Interrupting Oppenheimer’s Best Film Speech
BAFTA strongly responded after a man, identified as a social media prankster by Variety, crashed the final category at the film awards on Sunday night. The individual joined the Oppenheimer team on stage during the award presentation. A BAFTA spokesperson confirmed the incident and made it clear the prankster was scored out immediately.
“A social media prankster was removed by security last night after joining the winners of the final award on stage — we are taking this very seriously, and don’t wish to grant him any publicity by commenting further.”
The Oppenheimer team, seated together on the right of the stage, walked up to collect the BAFTA award. The prankster in a black suit emerged from the opposite side of the audience and joined them on stage while Emma Thomas gave her acceptance speech.
The audience seemed unaware that he wasn’t part of the team. The confusion arose as he coincidentally appeared when Thomas was urging the rest of the cast to join them. Despite the team staying in the audience, the prankster walked off stage with them after Thomas finished her speech.
BAFTA indicated that he was then apprehended by security. The man is suspected to have disrupted awards ceremonies in the U.K. and abroad, sharing the incidents on his social media pages. Regardless, we hope such incidents never happen again.
Christopher Nolan Was Thrilled To See Steven Spielberg Watching Oppenheimer
In a conversation with Variety, Christopher Nolan shared that he presented the initial 70mm print of Oppenheimer to Steven Spielberg. Initially contacted by Spielberg for a different matter, they both coincidentally had the print. They individually screened it for Spielberg, with Nolan sitting behind him during the viewing.
“He had called me about something else and I had just got the print as well and I hadn’t shown it to anyone…we screened it for him on his own. I sat behind him and watched him watch the film. It was an extraordinary experience. He said some very kind things, but really just to watch him watch. I wasn’t even supposed to watch it with him, but seeing the great master watching? It was sort of irresistible.”
The experience was described as extraordinary, with Spielberg expressing praise. Although Nolan hadn’t planned to watch it with Spielberg, the chance to see the acclaimed director’s reaction proved irresistible.
