Horikoshi wanted to portray Izuku Midoriya as a selfless individual, unlike most anime protagonists who only care about their ambitions. Surprisingly, not many fans are aware that the mangaka was struggling with the failure of imagination while working on My Hero Academia, and Tite Kubo, the creator of Bleach, helped him overcome such challenges.

Additionally, the Bleach creator also talks about his most-liked My Hero Academia moment and discloses Joint Battle Training as his personal favorite. After hearing Kubo’s comments, Horikoshi shared his admiration towards the Bleach creator. He reveals that he has been a big fan of Kubo’s work and even drew his own set of Zanpakutōs. He further adds:

In any event, Bleach was responsible for ingraining the power of words in me. However, my sensibilities are nowhere near as polished as yours… Which is why some people might think I’m lacking. Back when I read Jump obsessively, Oda-sensei, Kishimoto-sensei, and Kubo-sensei were the three pillars that propped up the magazine. Hence, the three of you are my heroes!

In a light-hearted moment, Kubo draws a humorous comparison between My Hero Academia‘s Izuku Midoriya and Kōhei Horikoshi, catching everyone by surprise. With a slight smirk, Horikoshi replied to Kudo’s comment by revealing his insecurities while drawing Deku’s character. The mangaka also shared that he was a lot worried about Midoriya appearing as a boring character for the readers.
