Days Gone is an underrated gem for the PlayStation platform and Sony is probably making a big mistake by walking away from it and mandating its developers to work on something else instead. Even the fans are upset but details about the new project will add fuel to the fire.

Jeff Ross, a co-director of the 2019 zombie video game revealed that the company has invested a significant amount of money on a new project that has less of a chance to be well-received compared to a highly-demanded sequel which can be a massive slap to the fans of the franchise.

The Fans of Days Gone Are Upset About Sony’s Decision

Ross has broken his silence and responded to the gaming community regarding the hopes for a Days Gone sequel. The director was blunt and straight to the point and claimed that the new leadership values review scores and sales more than the demand of the fans which is the final nail in the coffin. Ross also revealed that the studio is actively working on a new project and Sony spent at least a quarter of a billion which is an insane investment.

Bend Studio initially pitched a sequel but the company was too blind to the potential and ignored the strong demand from the community and ordered the developers to work on a new project. Despite the messy launch on the PlayStation 4 hardware, the game recovered and the opinion of the community shifted towards its favor but the company has shown no interest in revisiting the franchise.

The numbers do not lie, a good chunk of the player base fell in love with the game, flaws and all. It may not be perfect but it had a solid foundation and was the perfect trial for the developers to come back with a more refined version in the form of a sequel. This new ambitious project could be good but it is far more riskier than gambling on something that is beloved and the company is acutely aware of.

The Days Gone Sequel Is Officially Dead in the Water

The continuation of the cliffhanger ending of Days Gone will forever remain a mystery.

Co-director John Garvin was quite vocal about how upset he is for being unable to realize his vision and constantly takes a jab at the publisher for how they evaluate its portfolio of first-party content.

Depending on how well this new project will fare, the publisher will most likely feel a bit of regret for denying Garvin and Ross the opportunity to finish the story they worked so hard on.

On the flip side, if this upcoming project is a success, it could buy Bend Studio enough goodwill from the company and they could reconsider greenlighting a sequel.

The gaming community has shown constant support for the franchise and even did its part to make it look better on PC with the use of ray-tracing which could be a nice segue for a remastered version on the PlayStation 5 if the sequel is as good as dead.
