Among all the amazing actors who have played Spider-Man, the majority of comic book fans agree that Andrew Garfield is the most amazing of them all. It was his dynamic portrayal that made his Spider-Man so iconic and close to the comic book version of the character.
While he was dropped after the second installment of his series, his web-slinger recently found his way back through Spider-Man: No Way Home. And while rumors of him returning as the friendly neighborhood hero gain momentum, with even fans demanding his return, Sony should not let Garfield return in The Amazing Spider-Man 3, not until MCU’s Secret Wars.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been gearing up for what is supposed to be the biggest event after Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. The ultimate end to Marvel’s Multiverse Saga, Secret Wars is the perfect event to reboot not only the MCU but also Sony’s Spider-Man universe starring Andrew Garfield.
In Garfield’s last appearance as the web-slinger, Spider-Man: No Way Home, all the villains were shown to have discarded their evil ways and returned to their original universes. This event is possibly expected to cause significant changes in Garfield’s universe including preventing Gwen Stacy’s death.
While it would certainly take another movie to possibly explore all these changes, Avengers: Secret Wars can serve as the perfect event to lead to such a movie by rebooting his Spider-Verse. Since Secret Wars is already expected to star a plethora of stars, Garfield’s Spider-Man can easily be included while also providing the best back story leading up to The Amazing Spider-Man 3.
Furthermore, since there are rumors of Garfield going against Tom Hardy’s Venom in the future, Secret Wars can be the perfect avenue for the merger of the Venom-verse and the TASM-verse.
Secret Wars Can Also Help In Potential Spider-Man-Venom Clash
Spider-Man: No Way Home was no less of an easter egg for Sony’s Spider-verse. In addition to the return of two iconic Spider-Mans, it also teased a potential clash between the comic book nemeses Spider-Man and Venom. And since there is a possibility of Andrew Garfield’s return, Spider-Man and Tom Hardy‘s Venom clash seems inevitable.
But before their eventual clash, there is a need for the Venom-verse and the TASM-verse to merge to make the clash make sense. And Secret Wars can be the perfect avenue to do just that for Sony’s Spider-Man universe, by being a befitting backdrop to introduce the characters to each other before their epic battle takes place.
Furthermore, in 1984’s Secret Wars event, Spider-Man ended up bonding with the black suit aka Venom the symbiote. He even ended up taking it to New York City before realizing its true nature and trying to get rid of it. Adopting such an event can also serve as the perfect premise for Spider-Man and Venom to clash in the future, thus, making it easy for Sony and Marvel to bring back Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man in the best way possible.
Avengers: Secret Wars is slated to release by May 7, 2027.
