Sony has been in a successful partnership with Marvel Studios in bringing together Tom Holland’s Spiderman trilogy. All three films have been highly successful at the box office and have cemented the fact that the partnership is indeed a fruitful one. Sony has also been making their own Spider-verse films including Venom, Morbius, etc.
They have several upcoming Marvel projects including Kraven The Hunter and Madame Web. The trailer for the latter was recently released and it has speculated a theory among fans. It seems like this film will serve as a prequel to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: Homecoming and address the unexplored origins of his family.
Madame Web May Explain Peter Parker’s Family History And Bring Everything Full Circle
When Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man was presented in his first solo film in 2017, much information about his family members was not addressed in the film. Audiences were left to believe that Uncle Ben had passed away at some point in the past and Aunt May is now his only legal guardian. What happened to his parents is also not known and is never mentioned in the film.
The trailer for Dakota Johnson‘s Madame Web is interesting considering the fact that everything in the Sony Marvel Movies and the MCU films are now canon. Rumors have been swirling that Adam Scott and Emma Roberts are playing Richard and Mary Parker in the film who are Peter Parker’s parents in the comics. Putting all this together, it seems the film may serve as a prequel to Tom Holland’s Spider-Man films.
The film may explain why his parents were never mentioned in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Cassandra Webb is known as a clairvoyant and for her strong psychic abilities. Hence, something must have happened to Peter’s parents and she may have triggered everyone to lose their memories at the end of the film. Thus, no one from the film is ever mentioned in Holland’s Spider-Man films.
But now, with the multiverse cracked open in Spider-Man: No Way Home, everything will become clear and come full circle. This is a highly possible plot of the film and it will be exciting to see how and if the film will weave the interconnected threads of the Spider-Verse world together into one combined narrative.
Dakota Johnson’s Madame Webb Is Psychologically Driven According to Director
The trailer for Madame Webb dropped recently and presented a unique spin on the titular character. The character is usually shown in a supporting role in Spider-Man narratives in the comics and animated ventures, always confined to a wheelchair. This film instead shows her origin story when she was a paramedic.
In a new featurette, the director of the film S.J. Clarkson talks about the difference between this character with action-heavy superheroes like Spider-Man and Venom. She claims that the film and Madame Webb, the character will be driven by her fragmented psychology and the search for answers. Clarkson said,
“Madame Webb is unlike any other superhero. When you think about how Spider-Man flies through the air or Venom when he changes it’s so mythical to us. But with her, it’s all psychological and I found that incredibly exciting to explore. These visions (she has) are quite fragmented as she doesn’t see anything clearly. It’s the genesis and inception of what will become.”
It remains to be seen how the film manages to weave its various characters together and explain Madame Webb’s origins. By the end of the film, one will get to know whether it ties the whole Spider-Verse films together including Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and his unexplained family origins.
