This is even more interesting to consider since she has come right out to say just how she feels about her situation as a woman or just as an individual in the world and in Hollywood. As an activist, she has seen the ups and downs of life around her. In terms of environmental factors, human rights, and injustice, Bush is willing to take the stand without a second thought. So to keep quiet is not something she finds as a viable option.

Sophia Bush Reflects on History Repeating Itself

Quentin Tarantino thinks of the changing of eras as the oscillations of a pendulum. Time is a flow concept that goes about non-stop, changing constantly without a break. Regardless of continuously moving forward, there are fragments of history that always follow through with time. Whether it is in the evolution of language or of people. Sophia Bush, in the podcast Podcrushed, explained just how she sees history to be.

“I just don’t know what we’re doing here if we’re not figuring out how to be here together. In a better way. And I think the reason I find what’s happening in the world today so egregious is because we grew up studying all of this. We’ve been here before and by pretending that our history is not our history. By pretending that human beings will not be monstrous to each other. If permitted to be. We’re just seeing these hundred-year cycles repeat themselves.”

The actress focused on how as humans, evolution is what comes into being with what is taught in history. The past affects not only the present but also the future. History creates tradition and history creates ideas. Bush too has not ignored that fact. As a human rights activist, she sees problems with history and how things are perceived. History is told from the perspective of those who could write it.

She argued that as long as history is not taught without warning, it will not show the kindness behind the humans. The Rage of Achilles shows how brutal he was to the Trojans, it shows how ruthlessly he treated Hektor. However, the Rage of Achilles reflects his pain, it shows his loss, and his need to fulfill his task so that he can end his own suffering. There are always two sides to history, sometimes more.

Bush regards that the more humans pretend that the other side does not exist, the more these cycles become endless. No matter how much one may want to change, as long as the mistakes of the past are not repented and reflected on in the future, that change will never be permanent or concrete.

Sophia Bush Can No Longer Bow Down to Society

Speaking on Podcrushed, Sophia Bush talked about how women in general get pushed to societal norms as set in history. She reflects on the idea of women being seen as nice and sweet just because they stay quiet no longer what may be happening. This is not only limited to one gender. Any gender, any human, gets pushed to a limit with regard to their silence. Silene is seen as a sense of positivity in society.

“I just don’t know how we go quietly. So I’d much rather people say, ‘God, she has a lot to say.’ or, ‘She is a pain in the a**,’ than, ‘She seems nice.’ I don’t want to be nice. I wanna be here with you, with us, for real. ‘Cause we don’t get to be here for that long.”

America Ferrera’s character in Barbie gives one of the most iconic speeches in cinema. Her speech reflecting women and their suffering no matter how much they try to rise up is something society in general can reflect on.

“You have to have money, but you can’t ask for money because that’s crass. You have to be a boss, but you can’t be mean. You have to lead, but you can’t squash other people’s ideas.”

Taking these words into account Sophia Bush no longer chooses to stay quiet. She does not want to stay silent when she sees something wrong and she would rather be labeled negatively for her courage than positively for her bending to societal wants.
