Fortnite fans can seemingly kiss goodbye to any hopes of a Dr. Who X Fortnite collaboration as Dr. Who showrunner Russel T. Davies emphatically rubbishes claims of a potential crossover. Back in 2023 prominent Fortnite leakers had allegedly found evidence of a Dr. Who crossover event in the game files of Fortnite.
The collaboration had rumors afloat for over 18 months as data miners revealed an apparent promo script in 2023 regarding the project, but the lack of news had gotten fans impatient which led to one of the fans fielding the question to Russel T. Davies via an Instagram comment to which he replied “There isn’t one! It’s a complete myth, I’m afraid“.
Why Did the Fortnite X Dr. Who Rumors Surface?
Back in 2023 Fortnite leakers came across a newly-founded event titled ‘U.N.I.T. Tardis Alert’. U.N.I.T. was a reference to the fictional military organization of the Whoniverse called the Unified Intelligence Taskforce. And Tardis was the name of Dr. Who’s time machine.
This had gotten fans buzzing as they looked forward to a potential new event. But over time they got miffed due to the lack of concrete news from both the developers and the showrunners. But, if Russel’s comments are anything to go by, fans are in for disappointment.
However, for die-hard fans, this is not the end of the road. They are still keeping up hope that someday in the future the event will indeed drop.
Is This the End of the Line for Dr. Who in Fortnite?
With Dr. Who set to return to screen in May 2024, fans are still keeping up hope that come May, the crossover might get announced. The popular belief after Russel T. Davies’ public statement is that the project failed to come to fruition.
But fans aren’t willing to give up so easily as a section of them believe that Mr. Russel is intentionally lying to add to the surprise factor when the collaboration does drop. When Ncuti Gatwa commences his time as the fifteenth doctor in May, news might be more available on this matter.
