Though he is not a very well-known character in the comics, he is certainly memorable. This could be the reason why he was chosen to be one of the many new additions to Sony’s Spider-Man Universe. It was also announced that the titular character will be played by the Puerto Rican rapper, Bad Bunny.

Bad Bunny’s Spider-Man Spin-Off, El Muerto May Have Gotten Postponed

Sony had initially scheduled El Muerto to release on the 12th of January, 2024. This date however seems to have become quite unlikely as multiple sources have revealed. Bad Bunny‘s publicists themselves revealed that production for the project was at a standstill and remains in the development phase. A Sony representative, however, denied commenting on this situation.

“I’m hearing that it’s very unlikely to make that date”, claims a source, Big Screen Leaks

As the movie is scheduled to release in less than a year and has not begun filming as of yet, we will likely see a push in its release date. This, however, is not something new for superhero movies as they take required quite a lot of work to develop and post-production is also very time-consuming. Delays like this have been faced by other Spider-Man spin-offs too as Madame Web and Kraven the Hunter were also unable to meet their original release dates and had to be postponed.

What Has Sony Planned for Bad Bunny’s Spider-Man Spin-Off, El Muerto?

Despite this, El Muerto is quite promising with the casting of Grammy-winning rapper Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, better known as Bad Bunny, as the titular character El Muerto. It is also set to be based on a screenplay by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, known for his work in Blue Beetle. The movie is also set to be directed by Jonás Cuarón, who was also responsible for Chupa and Desierto.

“The way I am, the way I work, I’m so proud, very happy about this character, this opportunity to be the first Latino. It’s not about ‘I’m gonna be the first Latino making a role,’ it’s gonna be about the first Latino main character, that’s the important thing. So it’s something huge, and it will be epic. I know that the people are gonna be proud about my work.” Bad Bunny stated during an interview.

Bunny will be the first Latin superhero to lead in the Sony-Marvel Cinematic Universe. During an interview, the actor-rapper talked about how happy he is to have this opportunity. He mentioned that this role meant a great deal to him as a Latino and added that he understands how big of a deal this is and hopes people will be proud of what he does with the character.
