Spider-Man is probably the most popular superhero and comic book character across both DC and Marvel, his films have done well and have taken the video game industry by storm with Insomniac Games’ recent breakthroughs with their Marvel’s Spider-Man games. In the gaming format, anything is possible especially when tackling something complex like the Multiverse. More heroes and characters could have been focused on if Spider-Man: The Great Web hadn’t been canceled.

Adaptations allow developers to be much more creative in delivering their stories. Insomniac Games struck gold with the premise of their Spider-Man world and managed to share the spotlight with characters that are not that well known. Unlike films with a limited runtime, video games especially those that are open-world or live service allow players to spend more time with the characters.

The Other Would Have Been Featured In Marvel’s Spider-Man: The Great Web

Insomniac Games had a massive variety of possible archetypes for players to choose in Marvel's Spider-Man: The Great Web.

The lore of Spider-Man is so rich and vast that not every popular media involving the character can flesh out every single detail, or even character. The Great Web could have introduced the players to The Other, a character that has been linked to the Web of Life and Destiny with incredible abilities that he can bestow upon its receptacles on a person that will evolve them into a humanoid-like spider when in need.

In the canceled game’s interface, there seems to be an option for players to choose which Spider-Man, or woman, they want to be and potentially build their own characters with specific attributes and skills. This encourages the players to get creative and embody that not all Spider-Men are the same and that anyone can wear the iconic mask.

There is a web of possibilities and an infinite number of universes each has its Spider and story, the multiverse is large enough for them to share, and it is also their responsibility to safeguard it from threats unknown. The Other’s involvement would have made more sense and added more depth to The Great Web.

The Other’s Appearance Will Make The Spider-Man Lore Even More Convoluted

Peter Parker isn't the only Spider-Man in his universe, nor is he the only one in the entire multiverse. Insomniac could have expanded his character more by introducing the Other and his comic arc.

Video game adaptations are the perfect way to introduce the more obscure characters that are buried deep beneath the archives, characters that other projects would not even bother or dare to include in their stories. Insomniac Games has a penchant for creative story-telling and world-building to flesh out more characters and their background. A potential DLC surrounding the reformed villain Tombstone is evidence of their skill to branch out.

The Other making an appearance in what could have been the biggest Spider-Man project of all time would have been monumental, shedding more light into a character that has been underutilized and incorporating it to a much larger scale that benefits the game design and structure. Kudos to Insomniac for trying, but maybe there is a universe where this vision came to fruition.
