For those who are into the world of Star Trek, especially with the Picard show centering on Patrick Stewart, the first two seasons did not connect with fans. While critical ratings were high, audiences despised the narrative of the first two seasons. Terry Matalas, who served as co-showrunner of season 2, became the sole showrunner of the final season and brought a new change to the show.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the writer/creator of other hit shows like 12 Monkeys and the upcoming Vision show, is writing the script for a remake of the 1985 sci-fi film Enemy Mine. The original film featured a world where there’s a war between humans and aliens. It starred Dennis Quaid and Louis Gossett Jr. as a human pilot and an alien who are forced to work with each other to survive the war.

The original was not successful at the box office (grossing only $12 million against a $29 million budget via Box Office Mojo) but has gained a cult status in recent years. With Matalas’ brilliant work on Picard, it will be interesting to see the approach he takes with this remake and how he updates it for the current time.

Patrick Stewart‘s Jean-Luc Picard has been an instrumental figure in the Star Trek franchise having first appeared in Star Trek: The Next Generation and the 90s Star Trek films. He did not play the character since 2002’s Star Trek: Nemesis until his own show in 2020 with Star Trek: Picard. In an interview with Gold Derby, the actor revealed that he initially had concerns about doing the show as he did not want to ruin the legacy of previous Star Trek entries he’d been in.

Stewart was afraid that the series might lessen the impact that was created with an iconic series like The Next Generation and disappoint fans. However the actor had an extraordinary experience with the three seasons of Picard, and he regretted nothing about the show. Stewart said,

Oh, I had many concerns, and fundamentally they centered around should I really do this at all? Because Next Generation had been such an iconic series that I didn’t want to risk the impact of that, which it still has.

It was in every sense, an extraordinary experience. And although I had serious doubts to begin with, at the end, I regretted nothing.

While the first two seasons were lackluster, season 3 proved to be the best of the series (98% on Rotten Tomatoes). The series went out on a high note with great audience views and the greatest reviews for the entire show.
