The game is slated to launch for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC sometime in 2024 and has already been rated in some regions, suggesting that the release is near. It seems like the game may already be in hot waters with long-time fans, as it has broken a 40-year-old tradition.

Last week, Reddit user Ajxtt spotted that Star Wars Outlaws was rated 19+ by Korea’s Game Rating and Administration Committee for the PlayStation 5 version. The reasons behind this rating were mentioned as “realistic simulation of speculative behavior” and “mini-game with the content of in-game betting and dividends.”

The content information of the game also shows that the game has drug use and references to language that are not appropriate for players under 19 years of age. It is now speculated that this could lead to the game being rated “Mature” or 17+ in the United States, which would be franchise-first, breaking the 40-year-long tradition, which may not sit right with the fans.

Moreover, recent games in the franchise, such as Star Wars Jedi Survivor and the Star Wars: Battlefront series, were rated 12+ and 15+ in Korea and were rated Teen or 13+ in the United States. It is speculated that one of the reasons behind the 19+ rating that says mini-game content with in-game betting could be the Poker-like Sabbac card game, which was featured in the trailer.

Although Korea has stricter rating rules, the US rating board only rates a game “Mature” if there is strong language, sexual content, drug use, and over-the-top violence. Therefore, the drugs may be considered fictional sci-fi chemicals, and the language may be considered mild for US audiences. So it is very unlikely that the game is rated M, but it is always a possibility.

After being rated in Korea last week, Star Wars Outlaws has also been rated in Australia by the Australian Classification Board. The game has received a “Mature” rating in the region, and it is now expected that the game may be coming soon. According to JorRaptor, who compared the rating date and release of previous Ubisoft games, the game might release in late May or early June.

JorRaptor said that Assassin’s Creed Mirage was rated on July 17 and released on October 5, 80 days later. Star Wars Jedi Survivor received ratings on January 9 and launched on April 28, 109 days later, and this was after the delay.

Division 2 was rated on January 8 and released 63 days later, on March 12. But that doesn’t mean the game may release in the speculated windows. It is also important to know that Skull and Bones was rated in Australia in 2022 and released in 2024.

Players are advised to wait for an official launch date from Ubisoft before getting their hopes up. Are you looking forward to Star Wars Outlaws? Let us know in the comments.
