Bethesda Game Studios Starfield failed to live up to the expectations since its release on September 6th, 2023. However, Elder Scrolls Online, the online variant of the Elder Scrolls franchise has some impressive figures to boast.
Ahead of the release of Elder Scrolls 6, the relative failure of Starfield was bound to affect the fan reaction to the upcoming game. At the recently concluded GDC 2024, the Game Director of Elder Scrolls Online, Matt Firor, announced some mind-boggling figures that the game amassed over a decade of its running. These figures provide hope to the developers regarding the popularity of the Elder Scrolls franchise and boost the chances of the upcoming game in the franchise doing well at the box office.
Elder Scrolls Online Players Spent Almost 2 Billion
At GDC 2024, on the panel titled ’10 Years in Tamriel: Success of the Elder Scrolls Online‘, Matt Firor displayed some impressive figures that the game put up. He stated that the game has amassed nearly 2 billion dollars during its lifetime.
Although further breaking up of the number was not shown, the figure in itself is impressive. The game will celebrate its 10th anniversary this year after being released for PC back in 2014. The game spread to consoles a year later as the subscription fee was scrapped.
Ahead of the new entry in the franchise, this news is sure to come as a welcome break for Bethesda Game Studios as they have been under a lot of scrutiny regarding the Elder Scrolls franchise. The unbelievable amount of money spent by players shows one thing, that they are firmly behind the franchise.
The developers will definitely be hoping to bank on this massive popularity to propel Elder Scrolls 6 to box-office success. However, that can be quite a long wait for fans as the game does not have a specified release window yet.
What Next for Elder Scrolls?
Back in 2018, Bethesda Game Studios announced that they were in the early stages of Elder Scrolls 6. But ever since, there have been little to no updates regarding the future of the much-anticipated game. Although some rumors and leaks have resurfaced time and again, no official update has been released on the part of the devs.
The MMORPG has dropped 23 DLCs and 42 themed updates. A brand-new chapter is on its way in the form of Gold Road, the tenth chapter. And the best part of it? The land of Tamriel is showing no signs of slowing down.
But voices continue to stir in the gaming community regarding the situation of Elder Scrolls. It would however be wise to see what Bethesda Game Studios has in store for us as they have given us the much-loved Doom, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, Dishonoured, etc.
What do you think about the situation regarding Elder Scrolls 6? Do you think we are in for a masterpiece or a mediocre entry? Surely no one expects it to be a flop if the popularity of the Elder Scrolls franchise is anything to go by. Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
