PlayStation Plus subscription service which was launched in 2022 comes in three different tiers and offers the players a huge library of some of the best games from Sony’s history. Players availing of the service get access to games from the initial PlayStation 1’s library to the latest PlayStation 5.
This game subscription service shows the rich history of PlayStation games and it offers games from a wide variety of genres. All of these come at no additional cost apart from the subscription fee.
Since by now it has been reported that The Elder Scrolls VI will come out in 2026, and most likely skip the PlayStation, here are some of the games that PlayStation owners should look out for as an alternative.
Horizon Forbidden West
This game was added to the PS Plus Extra about a year after it made its debut. In the Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Forbidden West, players take the character of Aloy and travel west to the regions that were formerly a part of several states, including California, Nevada, and Utah.
While learning from a few mistakes and improving on a few areas that could have been done better, Horizon Forbidden West keeps much of what made its predecessor a success, which is also available on PS Plus Extra.
Although the open world of Horizon Zero Dawn is stunning and spectacular, this sequel adds more fascinating side storylines and substance to it.
Ghost Of Tsushima
This game makes the players travel back in time to the 13th century when the Mongols conquered Tsushima Island in Japan. The players take the role of Jin Sakai who after failing to stop the Mongols sets out to find fighters who can assist him in fighting the invaders.
Whether fans play it on the PS4 or PS5, the game’s open world is breathtaking. They will also get to see the Tsushima Island which is rich, diverse, and incredibly beautiful. This is also true for the Iki Island which is included in the Director’s Cut edition of the game.
Infamous: Second Son
Players can without any doubt play any of the Infamous games that PS Plus Premium has to offer. Infamous: Second Son was released rather early in the PS4’s lifetime and therefore many players skip through it. Even though it came on the previous generation console, the game remains one of the most visually stunning games available, with an amazing rendition of Seattle.
Infamous: Second Son builds on its predecessor and turns into something genuinely exceptional as the protagonist discovers new abilities and methods to engage with the outside world. Therefore, players should definitely look out for this game and is a good substitute for games like Ghost of Tsushima or Horizon Zero Dawn.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Though there are a few good older titles, Insomniac’s Spider-Man series is among the best when it comes to Spider-Man games. However, the 2018 game is no longer available in the subscription service. Nevertheless, Spider-Man fans who want to travel to the city of New York City can play the excellent spin-off Miles Morales.
Because this spin-off has a reasonably self-contained narrative, it may be seen as a stand-alone experience. The spin-off replaces Peter Parker with Miles, a hero who is still in his infancy. Miles Morales does an excellent job of capturing New York City, and even while there isn’t a ton of interesting side stuff, the delightful movement makes the game enjoyable to explore.
Jak 3
The latter games in the series i.e. Jak 2 and Jak 3 significantly increased the action and replaced The Precursor Legacy’s linear levels with larger, more open-ended regions. Despite these changes, the latter additions managed to maintain platforming as a central feature.
In Jak 3 the developers place a lot of emphasis on its free-roaming feature. Therefore players can spend as much time as possible exploring the game’s two cities and wasteland. Players should definitely look out for Jak 3 as it is still one of the better action-adventure games available for the PlayStation 2.
Gravity Rush 2
Gravity Rush 2 is a sequel to the Gravity Rush which has been ignored by many players. However, the game comes with improvements to its predecessor and gives the players a larger playground to hop across in the game. The sequel also takes players to several places during their universe-hopping trip, but Jirga Para Lhao and Hekseville will be where they spend most of their time.
The open environment of the game is stunning and is vast without being overly big. Similar to its predecessor, Gravity Rush 2’s traversal mechanism is gravity-driven, and improves the players’ universe by offering a distinctive method to engage with the game’s highs and lows.
