Starfield is still a hotly debated topic in the gaming community. Many gamers are still indecisive about whether the game was an RPG masterpiece, a mediocre slog, or just a bad game. But one thing that nobody even expected was a potential release on Sony’s PlayStation 5, the rival of Microsoft’s Xbox Series X|S.

According to a new rumor, it seems that Starfield may, in fact, be arriving on the PlayStation 5, despite Xbox’s ownership of Bethesda and the ongoing exclusivity deal.

According to the anonymous sources of XboxEra, Microsoft is planning to bring some first-party titles over to rival platforms, including the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. The titles in question were mainly Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves, but the big one is, of course, Starfield.

Starfield is already looking at a major expansion drop, titled “Shattered Space,” releasing sometime this year. The DLC will reportedly expand the story even more. The PlayStation 5 version of Starfield is reportedly set to come after the release of the DLC. It wouldn’t necessarily be a surprise if both arrive at the same time, giving PS5 users a bit more of a definitive experience, which many thought was not the case with the base game.

It seems that Microsoft is doubling down on the PS5 port, as according to the same sources, dev kits are being provided to accelerate the development of this version of the game.

Microsoft usually keeps its exclusives close to its chest. Games like Halo have never been available on PlayStation platforms. But it seems that Microsoft is changing its strategy and going all in on making multiplatform games rather than exclusives. This may be due to the lesser sales of the Xbox Series X|S compared to the PlayStation 5; however, nothing is confirmed.

The whole situation is seemingly not just surprising for fans of the respective consoles, as there is reportedly heavy debate on the inside about the whole idea of going multiplatform. Pros and cons are being measured to ensure the best outcome for the company, and it seems that in this case, the team is on the side of releasing different games on rival platforms.

Ultimately, this is good for both consoles’ lifespans. Xbox can focus on making more quality titles, while PlayStation will still have access to those amazing titles, making the “console wars” even more arbitrary than they already were.

Hi-Fi Rush is reportedly coming to other platforms sometime during Q1 of this year, although this news has already been making the rounds way before this new rumor. But with no trailer in sight, it’s only a matter of time before Xbox and Microsoft reveal that Hi-Fi Rush may come to PS5 and Nintendo Switch.

But still, other than knowing that the game will most probably release on the PS5 sometime after the DLC, there’s still no concrete date we can look forward to for Starfield. The game was quite difficult to make on its own. Who knows exactly when it will be released?
