HBO’s The Last of Us broke the streak of unsuccessful video game adaptations and proved that games can be smoothly translated into other media. Besides the general audiences, even the fans of the games applauded the series to be one of the most perfect adaptations. However, the same can’t be said for the upcoming Season 2.
The first season’s success led the makers to immediately announce a second season based on 2020’s The Last of Us Part II. As Season 2 is presently in development, several images from the set have been leaked, and unfortunately, the fans are not happy about them.
The leaked photos gave us a look into the new appearance of Bella Ramsey’s Ellie, and their look has left the fans concerned. The fans complain that Ramsey would be playing a 19-year-old Eliie in the upcoming season, but they are not looking any different from Season 1 in the leaked photos.
Bella Ramsey looks unconvincing as an adult Ellie
Recently, the internet was flooded with a series of leaked photos from the sets of The Last of Us Season 2. The photos (via The Last of Us News) revealed Bella Ramsey‘s Ellie and Isabela Merced’s Dina from the upcoming season, and the fans were left unimpressed.
According to The Last of Us Part II, Ellie’s character should be 19 in the upcoming season. Yet Ramsey is looking no older than their Season 1 look in the leaks. Interestingly, Bella Ramsey is presently 20. Unfortunately, it does not look like the makers have put any effort into their makeup or hairstyle to make them look older.

The fans also criticized when we got the first look into Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey’s Joel and Ellie before Season 1’s release. Nevertheless, the stellar performances and the other positive elements proved them wrong. Moreover, Ellie was 14 in the first season as per the game lore, so it fitted perfectly, but things don’t look very good this time.
The Last of Us fans are utterly disappointed by Ellie’s new look
The new set photos give us a drastically different look at Bella Ramsey’s character than their video game counterpart in the 2020 game. While it is not a written rule that the characters must look the same in the adaptations, still there’s no evident effort in making Ellie look more mature.
Soon after the set photos surfaced on the internet, the fans wondered if the makers even remembered that there was a time gap between both seasons. Several fans complained that the Game of Thrones alum’s hairstyle could be tweaked to make them look older. Here are some tweets for you to look at:

While most of the fans are concerned, some people have also come to the HBO show’s defense. According to them, the show might focus more on the character’s mature personality. Some have also suggested that the makers might also make some alterations to Ramsey’s look in post-production.
With Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann returning as the showrunners, it can still be hoped that the show may prove us wrong once again. It is also to be noted that The Last of Us Part II divided the gaming fans as well. It will be interesting to see how HBO will opt to adapt the controversial sequel.
The Last of Us Part II is set to premiere sometime on Max in 2025, while the first season can be streamed on Max.
