On the other hand, Mark Wahlberg provided a more insightful and informative approach as he urged people to come together and pray in his voiceover for the 30-second ad for the Hallow app. The app co-founded by Alex Jones in 2019 helps Catholics by providing audio-guided prayers, and meditative and Christian music. The ad ends with Wahlberg saying,

“Join us in prayer this Lent on Hallow. Stay prayed up.”

The app and Wahlberg started a partnership in 2022 and helped create awareness of his film Father Stu, a movie about a boxer-turned-priest. The actor has also opened up about his connection to religion to Today saying,

“I don’t want to jam it down anybody’s throat, but I do not deny my faith — that’s an even bigger sin. It’s important for me to share that with people. But I have friends from all walks of life and all different types of faiths and religions, so it’s important to respect and honor them as well.”

Wahlberg’s new ad is meditative and further shows how important religion is to him. The ad is sure to draw in a lot of new audiences due to Wahlberg’s star power and the various inspiring statements that he has made previously about his faith and beliefs.

In 2022, Mark Wahlberg starred as real-life boxer-turned-priest Stuart Long in the film Father Stu. It was Wahlberg’s first film to delve into the concept of religion and one’s faith. Through the film, Wahlberg wanted more people to embrace the church and commit to their religious beliefs.

He told The Patriot Ledger that the film is much needed in the time we live right now. He aims to instill hope and joy in people with the film. Wahlberg also released the film a year after his mother’s demise (and while he was shooting the film) and is sad knowing the fact that he cannot call his mother anymore. He said,

“It’s exactly the kind of movie the world needs right now. With everything that’s going on, people need to feel hope and joy and they need a reason to believe…“It’s strange to be home. She was always my first phone call right when I landed, and I didn’t do that this time. It feels … I don’t know … weird.”

The film was embraced by audiences and was also a box-office success. As of 2024, Wahlberg will star in the Netflix action thriller film The Union opposite Halle Berry. He will also play the lead in Mel Gibson’s Flight Risk which will also star Topher Grace and Michelle Dockery.
