The Jurassic Park director is a pioneer when it comes to the craft. Over the years, he has teamed up with various actors to produce some of the most memorable projects of all time, and one of them is Hollywood star Tom Hanks.

As the duo teamed up to conquer the air, the fact remains that Spielberg needed three separate series to master land, water, and air. On the other hand, Christopher Nolan needed just one film to achieve the same feat.

Steven Spielberg finally completes his trilogy of World War II drama

Executive produced by Steven Spielberg, the new project from Apple TV+ stars Tom Hanks and Callum Turner. With this new series, Spielberg has now completed his trilogy of dramas based on the Second World War.

The Jaws director took over two decades to finish this masterpiece. Released in 2001, Band of Brothers kicked off the trilogy, which saw Tom Hanks collaborate with Spielberg once more after their successful outing in Saving Private Ryan. The show chronicled the lives of the ‘Easy Company’ and their participation in the Western Front during the Second World War.

The duo followed it up with The Pacific in 2010, which revolved around the US Marine Corps’s actions in the Pacific during the war. Spielberg finally concluded his masterpiece of a television trilogy with Masters of the Air, which has Austin Butler in a lead role. “The land, the sea, and the air,” said Turner, about the three shows (via GQ).

Spielberg took his time to tell the stories he wanted with this trilogy. However, it has raised comparisons between him and the new Academy Award-winning director, Christopher Nolan.

Nolan has an impressive body of work under his belt, and his latest project, Oppenheimer, even won an Oscar. However, he is not new to making war films either, and he proved his mettle with Dunkirk.

How does Christopher Nolan triumph over Steven Spielberg?

Dunkirk is a critically acclaimed war thriller film that was released in 2017 and won the director numerous accolades. Nolan deftly handled the story of the Dunkirk evacuation during the Second World War.

With a runtime of just 106 minutes, Nolan tells the story from three different perspectives: land, sea, and air. In the end, all three plots converge to show how the evacuation really came to be.

Dunkirk proved to be a critical hit and the highest-grossing film revolving around the war until Oppenheimer overtook it. In addition to accolades, the film also ended up winning three Oscars for Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, and Best Film Editing.

Christopher Nolan is an able filmmaker, and he has pushed the limits of his imagination with each new film. While there might be comparisons, Steven Spielberg is still one of the biggest pioneers of Hollywood.
