Stranger Things that began its first season in 2016, became a television series that gained huge popularity and following worldwide. The show went on to make young talents like Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, and Noah Schnapp bonafide superstars. The success of Stranger Things season 1 encouraged the show’s creators, the Duffer brothers, to develop 3 more successful seasons in which the actors, who started their journey as young children, grew organically into teenagers.
Season 5 though, which has been in the works for a while, has now been stalled due to the Writers and Actors Strike, and is expected to air sometime in 2025. With the cast who are now adults having to continue playing teenagers, producer Shawn Levy was asked if he would resort to de-ageing techniques to make them look younger. The producer though, dismissed these speculations summarily.
Amid Indiana Jones 5 Controversy, Stranger Things Producer Shoots Down De-Ageing Technology
Indiana Jones 5 which saw Harrison Ford reprising his famous titular role, faced criticism for using AI to de-age the veteran for a few flashback scenes. While there has been a lot of debate about the dominance of this technology amidst the ongoing SAG-AFTRA Strike, Stranger Things producer Shawn Levy has addressed claims of incorporating de-aging in season 5 of his blockbuster series.
Confirming that he did not imply that this technology will be used to make the cast, who are now adults, look like teenagers, Levy assured fans that this would be achieved by natural processes and not through the AI de-ageing method. In a statement to Deadline, the Stranger Things showrunner said,
“Our hair and makeup and wardrobe department are pretty exceptional, using costumes and wigs and makeup. The ’80s are also our friends in returning these young adult actors to their iconic Hawkins characters. So we’re going to use all the tools available to us. And I know our cast is as eager to get back to work as the rest of us.”
Levy also said that season 5 of Stranger Things will bring back the characters even more vividly than before, with their individual arcs being explored in great detail.
Why Millie Bobby Brown Is Ready For Stranger Things To End
With her role as Eleven, Millie Bobby Brown took the world by storm in the hit supernatural series Stranger Things. The show also became Brown’s foothold into entering Hollywood after which many prestigious projects came her way. Now, 9 years and 5 seasons later, the Enola Holmes star is ready to hang up her boots and say goodbye to the show.
Brown compared her time on set to leaving high school, and moving onto the next phase of her life as a student. Speaking to UK’s Glamour Magazine, the star elaborated on why she felt that this was the right time to end her stint with Stranger Things.
“Stranger Things takes up a lot of time to film and it’s preventing me from creating stories that I’m passionate about. So I’m ready to say, ‘Thank you, and goodbye.'”
Holmes added that the series gave her all the resources to become a better and more equipped actor, and for that, she was extremely grateful and humbled. She also stated that her bond with her cast members will continue even after they went their separate ways.
