Alan Ruck has been playing the role of Connor Roy in HBO’s “Succession” and getting his due credit. However, it all began for him with 1986’s all-time classic “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”. He played the nervous, fast-talking Cameron Frye in John Hughes’ classic. He reluctantly got dragged along on Ferris’ epic adventure, stealing his dad’s Ferrari and causing delightful mayhem throughout Chicago.
Many years later, Alan Ruck might have a bone to pick with someone. Despite recently bringing the character back to life, it seems like Ruck does not recall doing any such incident. The reason why he has seemingly forgotten reprising his character is definitely worth knowing!
Alan Ruck Does Not Remember Reprising The Role of Cameron Frye
In 2020, Alan Ruck reprised the role of beloved Cameron Frye for an advertisement with Liftmaster. While fans have seen the youthful Frye, the ad brought an older version of Ferris Bueller’s sidekick. Ruck and his wife Mireille Enos recently had a word at the 2024 SAG Awards Red Carpet with EW’s Gerrad Hall.
There, Hall asked him how secret was the project of bringing back Frye to life. Both Ruck and his wife listened in silence as if they did not know anything. When Hall asked how it felt to “reconnect with that character”, Ruck responded “Uh, No” “Maybe somebody owes me some money, but, I don’t know.”
The interview soon shifted to other matters. However, this single line from Ruck is enough to attract a lot of eyes. The fact that he was seemingly not paid in full for his work in the commercial is a weird thing to know.
Is Alan Ruck in Ferris Bueller’s Day Off New Movie?
In August 2022, it was announced that the fan-favorite 1986 movie was getting its spin-off. The name of the new movie is Sam and Victor’s Day Off. The new entry will be creatively led by Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald, the three creators of Cobra Kai.
The movie will be based in the same time frame as the original movie and will center around Sam and Victor, the two valets who took Cameron’s father’s Ferrari on a joy ride. While speaking to EW, Ruck was asked what to expect from the new movie.
“They’re going to do a movie about the two garage attendants”. “I know as much as you do.”, Ruck responded. Thus, it is safe to assume that Ruck won’t be a part of the new movie. Also, the fact that the new film will take place around forty years back eliminates the now 67-year-old Ruck from playing a major role.
