In an interview with JP Karliak recently, the FandomWire team asked questions about the actor’s performance in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and learned quite a few interesting tidbits about his journey throughout the job.
The Joker is a character that has been portrayed through several mediums and performances over the years, and Karliak’s performance is a culmination of some of the best bits he has learned over the years.
Multiple Jokers, one solid combo of JP Karliak’s favorites
In JP Karliak’s interview with the FandomWire team, we learned many things about the charming actor’s personality, and how his role in Kill the Justice League inspired him to do some of his best work.
Questions about his performance were inevitable, and one particular question dived into his sources of inspiration for the role of Joker. Based on his experience, it seems like the talented actor has been inspired by some of his favorite portrayals from over the years:
I was obviously cherry-picking bits from my favorite Jokers like Hamill and Nicholson and Ledger. And even John DiMaggio, and Kevin Michael Richardson who I also love.
So I’m trying to pick up on all of those little bits, but he is also still very much my version, and thank God I didn’t have to impersonate anyone.
Karliak’s Joker is certainly a portrayal fans haven’t seen before, and it’s going to add to the game’s context and environment accordingly. The character arrives in the game on March 28, as part of its first season.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will introduce the Joker in a new light
At first glance, this version of the character is not something fans would have seen in the past. After all, Mark Hamill and Heath Ledger’s versions of the character have been far too popular for any newcomer to join the squad.
And, in the case of Kill the Justice League, it’s gonna be a challenging time to accept and welcome new changes, given the game’s poor reception. Talk about the right artist, wrong timing!
Regardless of this, it’s great to know that the actor hasn’t been affected by the criticisms whatsoever. Instead, his portrayal of the character tries to stay as truthful as it can to the source material. The devs have some surprises up their sleeves with this one, and we’ll have to watch how all of it unfolds.
