Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is all set to release in February, 2024. The game is from Rocksteady Studios, and is the company’s latest title, since Batman Arkham Knight in 2015. The game has been in production since 2017, and some fans got a taste of it when WB Games rolled out a closed alpha.

The title is also connected to the Arkhamverse, the universe consisting of the three mainline Batman Arkham titles: Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, and Arkham Knight. Recently, there was an announcement from the developers, and it was revealed that the game will be receiving an expansion that goes directly against the events of the three previous installments.

Reported initially by the American business magazine Forbes, the title has recently announced some content that will be available post-launch. This is because Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League is a live service game, supported by new content now and then from the studio.

The latest announcement was made through Discord via a Q&A session, where the team revealed that the title will receive a Joker expansion. This was done indirectly as the studio shared an image where Harley Quinn seems to be standing in front of a structure that looks like Joker’s hideout, colloquially referred to as the “madhouse” in media based on DC Comics. The building is painted in the Clown Prince of Crime’s signature colors, Purple and Fluorescent Green.

The structure also has “The Daily Chuckle” written in a similar style to The Daily Planet, which is the news and media outlet that Clark Kent/Superman works for in DC Comics. On the first look, it feels like it’s The Daily Planet building, which Mr. J has repurposed.

Joker can also be seen in the photo, where if one zooms in closely they can see a newspaper showing his face. Something to notice is that this isn’t the same Joker fans are familiar with from the Batman Arkham games. He was there in all three titles, but was only present as a figment of Batman’s imagination in the last one. That is only because Joker dies in Batman Arkham City, and the opening of Arkham Knight sees the player incinerating his corpse.

While it is unclear how the character will return, Rocksteady has talked about Brainiac’s ability to introduce things and individuals from other universes, and the leaked plot for the game also confirmed this ability.

This begs the question of whether Joker would a playable character, or feature as an enemy in the title. It is worth noting that other games in the Arkhamverse have featured Joker as a playable character, even if it has been brief missions or challenges.

Also, as per the comics, Joker has been in the Suicide Squad, so adding him as a playable character might not be the worst idea. When the picture was posted on the Discord Server, this was the message from one of the team members over at Rocksteady. There is very little information as to when we can expect the expansion to land, but it is undoubtedly better than no information:

One last thing before we go. Since we just finished talking about our endgame, here’s a tease for somerthing that might come even later…See you soon!

It is unsure whether the expansion related to the Joker will make its way to the game post-launch and be sold separately, or offered in one of the seasons of new content associated with live service titles.

Given the reception that other live service games like the infamous Marvel’s Avengers have received in the past, people are already skeptical as to whether Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League will be worth the wait. Regardless, nothing can be said before the game receives reviews after its launch, since it would be unfair to conclude anything based on prior leaks, previews, or the closed alpha.
