How Does Stephen Amell’s Ted Black Differ From Gabriel Macht’s Harvey Specter?

As a spin-off, comparisons between Suits L.A. and the original series are inevitable, with particular scrutiny likely falling on Stephen Amell’s character, Ted Black. Given the loose association with Harvey Specter, a beloved character from the insanely popular show, there’s understandable skepticism around it. However, amidst the secrecy surrounding their plots, some details suggest that Ted Black may not have much in common with Harvey Specter after all.

In Suits L.A., Stephen Amell’s character, Ted Black, is said to be a former New York prosecutor who moved to the West Coast to establish his own law firm, Black Lane Law, alongside his friend Stuart Lane. Whereas Specter initially held the position of a junior partner promoted to senior status in the early episodes of the series, his eventual rise to name partner as the story progressed added more intrigue to the show. Having said that, Black may share similarities with Jessica Pearson more than Harvey Specter.

Thus, it can be said that Ted Black can be a compelling protagonist in his own right, distinct from any Harvey traits. Fortunately, so far, none of the character descriptions in Suits L.A. seem to directly mirror those from the original series.

All in all, for this show to succeed, it must fill some big shoes. Not only does it need to stand on its own, but it also has to maintain audience interest, or else it might suffer the same fate Pearson did.
