Helldivers 2 is the most surprising smash hit of the year so far and has garnered a large community. The community has been fighting day and night against the Terminids and Automatons to safeguard Super Earth and deliver democracy.

After days of fighting, the community completed a recent major order to defend 10 different planets within a given timeframe, and it shows how Super Earth citizens see the situation. However, it is not all as good as it seems, and players have compared Super Earth to North Korea.

Super Earth is an ultra-authoritarian power within the galaxy where every citizen is given an M2016 Constitution bolt-action rifle when they turn 16 to encourage military service. The citizens participate in military service and go to war against anyone who threatens democracy and humanity.

The military service is seen very highly by the citizens, but they might not know everything about their government. One Helldivers 2 player, u/SpectrumSense, took to the r/Helldivers subreddit and asked the community if the citizens of Super Earth are aware of what the government is doing.

They compared Super Earth to North Korea, saying that people there “put on a show” that they don’t know anything so that they are not “re-educated” or “executed” but know that their government is controlling. They asked the community if the citizens of Super Earth are also doing the same or if they are taught to believe everything the government says.

The player added that the citizens of Super Earth do not suppress all kinds of thoughts, as the Destroyer crew says, “borderline thoughtcrime stuff.” They also mentioned that it is a crime to try to learn how the automatons came to be in Helldivers 2 and who created them.

Do you think the citizens of Super Earth are fully aware of what their government is doing?

They said that this would lead to citizens finding out that they have been lied to and that the Super Earth is “re-democratized.” The player also stated that they know Helldivers 2 is a satirical game, but it is something that needs to be thought about, and others seem to agree.

Players Think the Citizens Are Not Fully Indoctrinated

The player said Super Earth citizens may be aware of things but are acting like they aren't.

In reply to the user, several Helldivers 2 players said that it is possible that many are not aware of the real state of things. One player said that several of the Super Earth citizens are “brainwashed,” and only a number of them suspect things.

They added that if they are caught, they are either sent to reeducation or they live pretending to not know anything as they cannot bring any change to the situation. Another player said that seeing how every 16-year-old is issued a weapon, it seems like the citizens are okay with how things are or there would be “a lot more insurrection.”

User u/GhostCrackets said that considering how there are always threats of treason for citizens if they do or do not do something and also how “thought crime” things are seen on Super Destroyer TV, citizens may not be “fully indoctrinated,” but they seem not to be aware of what is going on.
