A table read of James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy had the film’s entire cast gather in Atlanta. This also revealed the logo of Superman: Legacy, as social media was flooded with images and teases of the table read. While many fans were expecting the Superman logo to be something more akin to the classical depiction of the crest of the House of El, they were pleasantly surprised by what the logo seemed to be instead.

The logo that has been making the rounds on the internet, allegedly from the Atalanta table read, looks more akin to the logo that Superman wore in the Kingdom Come storyline, which is black and red and a little more angled, as opposed to the classic, curved, red and yellow logo that has become the more recognizable logo of the Man of Steel. The logo does have a lot of implications, especially given the ideas and themes that are allegedly surrounding the film.

The Kingdom Come logo is an important Superman symbol

In recent years, there has been an overwhelming influx of deconstruction of Superman and other superheroes in general. There has also been a vibe in the industry in general that believes that the drama of Superman is too boring for audiences and that he could benefit from an edgier makeover. The superhero space in general has been dominated by more violent superhero stories, ones that act as a deconstruction of the ideals that define Superman as a character.

The logo comes from the comic book Kingdom Come, written by Mark Waid, which looks at the Justice League of old reuniting to fight the edgier and ruthless heroes, ones who believe in absolute justice, which often results in them acting as judge, jury, and executioner.

It seems that Superman: Legacy, with its various comic boom influences, wishes to launch a universe that reflects the idea of a strong but merciless class of superheroes, one that does not see anything wrong in the use of excessive force. The Man of Steel could be the beacon of change, a sort of return to form for superheroes in general, making the character and the genre, center on what heroes need to do again.

Fans are excited about the DCU after the logo reveal

Fans have taken to social media to talk about their feelings about the upcoming film and the shared universe that will follow in its wake, a conversation that has largely been hopeful, if not optimistic.

Superman: Legacy seems to be shaping up to be a film that fans can get behind wholeheartedly.  With the Fantastic Four due to release at the same time, it seems that July 2025 might be the summer that saves superheroes, restoring the rivalry between DC and Marvel without either side dominating the other.
