Co-CEO of DC Studios, James Gunn, recently revealed some more information regarding the upcoming movie, Superman: Legacy (2025). As per Gunn, the audition process is still going on. It was revealed that the production of Superman: Legacy was slowed down due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike. Many seasoned writers are currently on strike demanding higher and fairer pay.

During his latest interview, James Gunn explained how he approached the character of Superman, who is flawed. Gunn gave some more information regarding the new Superman that he is very excited to present to the audience.

Filmmaker James Gunn recently appeared on the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast and revealed that the new Superman is “flawed.” He was asked by Michael Rosenbaum, “How do you handle stories about Superman or Wonder Woman, who are not flawed and are basically gods?” Gunn then replied,

“Superman’s flawed. All characters have flaws, it’s not as if he’s not flawed but he’s also probably not flawed in the same way.”

The hype for Superman: Legacy is quite wild as fans are excited to see the new actor who will play the role. The movie will hit the theatres in 2025.

Further in the interview, James Gunn revealed that they are narrowing down the process of auditioning, indicating that they may have shortlisted some actors who are fit for the role,

“Now that we’ve kind of done a lot of auditions, we’re narrowing it down. We’re not done yet.”

The director previously requested his Twitter followers to not believe any rumors unless they have been confirmed by him or Peter Safran. Safran teased the film earlier this year stating that it is not an origin story as it is about “Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing.

James Gunn also talked about all the rumors surrounding the actor who will play the next Superman. Obviously, Henry Cavill set the standards so high that everyone wants to know who will take the mantle now. Gunn said,

“There are things in there that are completely false, but I can’t go out there and say, ‘Oh this isn’t true, and this isn’t true’ without going through everything, and by the way, it’s not the audience’s — at this point, I don’t think it’s the business of anyone who is screen-testing for a role. That is a very private thing. Journalists have to do what they have to do. That’s their job. They’re trying to get hits.”

Gunn concluded by saying that the media gets their information from agencies who claim that their client is screen-testing for the role, however, that is something only the star and James Gunn are aware of.
