Renowned action star Sylvester Stallone recently opened up about how he was forced to undergo his seventh surgery due to the injuries that he sustained on the set of his 2010 movie The Expendables. Although the actor luckily survived a neck fracture while filming a fight scene with wrestler-turned-actor Steve Austin, it took a major toll on his body.
On The Family Stallone S2 premiere, veteran actor Sylvester Stallone revealed that he never recovered from the injury he endured while filming The Expendables. Due to a stunt gone wrong with co-star and WWE legend Steve Austin, Stallone was left with dislocated shoulders and a fractured neck, leading him to have 7 major surgeries.
Sylvester Stallone Suffered Major Stunt Failure
Rising to fame for his appearance in action-packed movies like the Rocky and Rambo franchise, Sylvester Stallone turned into a household name in Hollywood, in the 80s. Thereafter, Stallone evolved as an actor and later appeared in several other renowned action franchises like The Expendables. However, despite being known for his action sequences, not always did the actor have a pleasant experience.
Opening up about his 2010 movie The Expendables, Sylvester Stallone noted how he had a major accident on set while performing a fight scene with his co-star and WWE legend Steve Austin. During his appearance on The Family Stallone S2 premiere via PEOPLE, the actor recalled the incident from the set that led him to have dislocated shoulders and a fractured neck.
“I did stupid stuff. I was directing ‘Expendables’ and, like an idiot, I’m doing take 10, take whatever, and I remember one slam and I could actually feel one bang. Steve knew.”
Recalling his stunt failure, the actor mentioned how he ended up with major injuries. Sylvester Stallone noted that he never recovered from the set injuries he received while filming The Expendables.
Sylvester Stallone Underwent His Seventh Surgery
Admitting how it was stupid of him to not use stunt doubles during his scene with Steve Austin, Sylvester Stallone noted that he never recovered from those injuries. Revealing how he had to undergo seven major surgeries where he needed a metal plate inserted into his neck and spinal fusions, Stallone shared a piece of advice with his colleagues.
“I never recovered from [‘Expendables’]. After that film, it was never physically the same. So I warn people, ‘Don’t do your own stunts.’”
Forced to go through seven major back surgeries due to his unfortunate stunt accident, Sylvester Stallone’s wife, supermodel Jennifer Flavin, opened up about how sad and terrifying it was for them to watch the actor in such a condition. Going through severe pain, Flavin noted that Stallone “doesn’t like people to know” about his surgeries.
Not just Jennifer Flavin, but even Sylvester Stallone’s daughter Scarlet expressed how it was for her to witness her father go through severe pain, every time he went under the knife. “It’s really hard to see my father go through yet another painful operation,” Stallone’s daughter shared. But eventually, despite the setbacks, Stallone never let anything affect his performance throughout his career.
