Well, it’s here. The Golden Globe Awards 2024 recently aired on television and as usual, some jokes were funny but some jokes were bomb. Taylor Swift, the iconic American singer was left unimpressed when comedian Jo Koy tried to take a dig at her.
Sitting alongside Keleigh Sperry, the wife of actor Miles Teller, Swift was enjoying the show. Jo Koy, during his monologue, took a dig at the recent attention that the singer has been getting at the NFL games due to her current partner Travis Kelce.
Jo Koy’s Joke Left Taylor Swift Unamused
Being the host of the Golden Globes comes with certain privileges to make jokes without offending any celebrities. Some jokes are indeed taken too far by the hosts and there have been controversies with actors unable to take a joke like a certain Men in Black actor at the Oscars.

However, most of the jokes are taken in good humor as the world enjoys a little bit of laughter. At the 81st Golden Globes, Taylor Swift sat alongside Keleigh Sperry as the singer enjoyed an award-filled evening. During his monologue, Jo Koy, the host of the Golden Globes took a dig at the recent attention that Swift has been getting at the NFL games due to her current boyfriend Travis Kelce who plays tight end.
“A big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL: On the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift. I swear” said Jo Koy (via ET)
As the camera took a shot of Taylor Swift, the singer had a deadpan look on her face as she picked up her drink and took a sip. Keleigh Sperry was seen smiling alongside the singer as she reportedly laughed at the joke.
Taylor Swift has been cheering her current partner, Travis Kelce, who plays tight end in the NFL games. Several shots during these NFL games show Swift cheering for Kelce through his games. Although the joke was based on observations, it just didn’t work out.
Jo Koy Defended His Joke On Taylor Swift

It is no secret that Jo Koy had a very hard time trying to read the room. As the jokes fell flat or outright offensive to several actors, Koy shifted the blame on his writers and stated that he got the gig just 10 days ago. On the Taylor Swift joke, Koy revealed to GMA 3 (via X) that “it didn’t come out that way”.
“I think it was when the Taylor [Swift] one was just a little flat. It was a weird joke, I guess. But it was more on the NFL…I was trying to make fun of the NFL using cutaways and how the Globes didn’t have to do that. So it was more of a jab toward the NFL. But it just didn’t come out that way.”
Well, although the singer did not take offense to that joke, the world has been hating Jo Koy for his terrible performance as the host of the Golden Globes. The comedian stated in his defense that it was a crash course for him. As the saying goes, comedy is subjective.
