Many titles like Tekken 8 that involve online interaction and matches face issues, such as the absence of active players who simply enter matches without participating, or the presence of infamous trolls and hackers.
This kind of behavior is part of gaming; every game has its own way to avoid it. Some titles just go straight to the point and ban accounts. In the most recent update on Tekken 8’s online bans, the game’s team announced on social media that they had banned accounts that were simply going to the bathroom, which infuriated some fans.
Tekken 8 is Going to Make Some Changes
Online gaming has been one of the most popular things in video games for over 15 years. Every title has its community, and the studios are really looking for ways to improve and create the most successful environment. Numerous IPs face issues where player actions can negatively impact the experience of other players. There are numerous ways to solve this, but the quicker one is to ban that account.
Many fighting games have a very active community that really enjoys playing with others in this quick and adrenaline-charged genre. Tekken 8 is one of those games with many active online players who want to be included in the global ranking. The latest update from Bandai Namco regarding banned accounts in this game has led to some players becoming angry due to their perceived lack of logic.
Bandai Namco’s Decisions Are Very Controversial
In a recent post on X, the Tekken 8 official account confirmed that it suspended various accounts yesterday due to a couple of very reasonable things, except for one that caught everyone’s attention. The post literally said that some accounts were banned due to idling on online matches.
Account Suspensions – April 25, 2024
— TEKKEN (@TEKKEN) April 25, 2024
We've suspended #TEKKEN8 accounts involved in malicious and unauthorized activities, including:
🚫Intentional disconnects
🚫Cheating
🚫Inappropriate customizations / player names/ chat messages
🚫Idling during online matches
Many fans were not happy about this and replied to the post with several things to say, saying that the studio should be focusing on more important things.
If you're going to ban people for idling during matches then add a forfeit button so people can instantly lose.

In response, the account stated that the game’s user agreement outlines these bans, further complicating the process for players to reactivate their accounts.
What is idling?

Am i to be punished when a char i hate pops up on a bad day and im too tilted to fight?
If my kid falls and i go to her and leave the game?
When my pad dies and i don't have a spare or cord ready?
I get lagged into a confirmation to fight when i tried to decline?…
Many players are hoping that this is not a permanent ban, that it goes away, and that the accounts are usable again.
Some of you are better off playing on a new account, I see so many people with 10% or MORE disconnection rate 💀

This shouldn’t even be included in the agreement; it makes no sense. Bandai Namco will really have to think about this.
Many games have solved this very easily by having a lobby with a time limit of 2 minutes. Rocket League and other titles have online tournaments that can wait a reasonable amount of time and then kick the player out. The suspension should occur after multiple infractions, not just one. Going to the bathroom has nothing to do with cheating, disconnecting on purpose, or other more reasonable and punishable acts.
