Recently, a theory surfaced on the internet focusing on the Infinity Gauntlet and Thanos and Captain America’s fight in Wakanda in Avengers: Infinity War, stating Cap might be worthier than Thanos, but not all fans agree with it.

Chris Evans‘ is one of the most popular of Marvel stars. initially hesitant to accept the role of the titular character Captain America in the MCU, the actor’s portrayal will remain legendary and irreplaceable. Even after his exit from the franchise in 2019, theories about his time continue to make rounds on the internet.

More recently, a new fan theory (via Instagram) focused on his fight with the mighty Titan Thanos in Wakanda surfaced on the internet, and it might be too hard a pill to swallow. According to the fan theory, during their fight in Wakanda in Avengers: Infinity War, Captain America tries to stop Thanos from snapping his fingers and tries to keep his hand open.

In that particular scene, one can notice how none of the Infinity Stones light up, shocking Thanos. This might be because Rogers is worthier than Thanos, and the stones recognize him so. Hence, Thanos has to physically punch him away to use the Infinity Gauntlet.

We know, Captain America is the worthiest of all Avengers, apart from Thor. Even in Avengers: Age of Ultron he manages to move Thor’s Mjolnir before finally wielding the weapon in Avengers: Endgame. While this theory is highly plausible to be correct, not all Marvel fans believe in it.

The MCU, through several movies, makes it clear that Thanos needs to snap his fingers in order to use the Infinity Gauntlet. Even in Endgame, every Avenger tries to keep Thanos from snapping his fingers during the grand fight. Correlating with the above-mentioned fan theory, it is possible that Thanos was surprised by Captain America’s strength rather than the ‘infinity stones not working’.

Hence, when the said theory went viral, Marvelholics are divided over the credibility and possibility of such a theory. This is what many of them stated in the comment section of the Instagram post containing this fan theory.

The stones aren’t glowing because Thanos needed to close his hand to activate the stones powers. That was explained in the fight on titan. -@caseysdiecast5

Cap didn’t hold him back at all,in the comics, something similar like this happened. Steve did touch the Soul Stone while holding the gauntlet and Thanos saw Steve’s whole life up to this,in which where he saw that Steve is a very honorable man and doesn’t give up easily, now Thanos made that face because he was confused as if why Steve would come run up to him and actually think that he can win. -@papa_.grinch
Thanos wasn’t even trying. @lo_spino_nel_fianco
The gauntlet doesn’t work that way, it has nothing to do with worthy or not. -@igor1701e
He can lift thors hammer because he is worthy the gauntlet doesn’t have the worthy enchantment and what does worthiness have to do with strength. -@jokerjr40
Worth has nothing to do with the gauntlet.. it is purely power it’s not something like the hammer . The gauntlet even burned half part of hulk .so it’s too powerful even for hulk it also burned half part of Thanos who is known as the strongest being in the universe… Gauntlet it too powerful for Captain.. I don’t think cap can wield it .. -@i.am_darkseid
And so stated several Marvel fans in the comments. While some also supported Captain America and deemed him worthier than Thanos, it is also true that the Infinity Stones have little to do with ‘worthiness’.
As several fan theories about the ‘Golden Age of MCU’ continue to circulate, it is fascinating to see the deep impact characters like Captain America and the whole of MCU have had on fans.
