The actor was last seen in the 2017 film Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, the only film that he considers to be on par with the level of quality and impact of the original film, particularly when it comes to the element of surprise.
Johnny Depp Equates One ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ Movie to the Original
The first Pirates of the Caribbean film, The Curse of the Black Pearl, is considered to be one of the best films in the franchise. And the star of the film series Johnny Depp equated it with the fifth installment in the franchise, Dead Men Tell No Tales in an interview.
Talking to Heavy Magazine, he suggested that with the 2017 movie, the filmmakers have introduced a fresh perspective and unexpected twists, incorporating elements that are both unusual and darker. He also shared that Dead Men Tell No Tales also features “some really funny stuff.” He said,
“I think with this film what we have all done is come up with new angles and new surprises, things that are a little more bizarre, a little darker even. And then there has been some really funny stuff thrown in there as well.”
He further shared that Dead Men Tell No Tales would also offer the audience the same sense of surprise and delight as the first film in the franchise. “And I think this film will have that surprise…that element of surprise that the first one had,” he said during the interview.
However, despite his anticipation, the movie failed to perform well among critics, as they pointed out its crude humor excessive use of CGI, weak plot, and overall lack of originality as some of its negative aspects.
Dead Men Tell No Tales Could Become Johnny Depp’s Last Pirates of the Caribbean Film
Johnny Depp was last seen donning the role of Captain Jack Sparrow in the 2017 film Dead Men Tell No Tales. And producer Jerry Bruckheimer’s latest revelation suggests that it would also become Depp’s last film in the franchise.
Amid rumors of his return as Jack Sparrow in the potential next Pirates of the Caribbean film, the producer of the franchise Jerry Bruckheimer has shared the plans to reboot the film series. When asked about the future of his hit franchises in a recent interview with ComicBook.com, he said, “It’s hard to tell.”
He further added, “But we’re gonna reboot ‘Pirates,’ so that is easier to put together because you don’t have to wait for certain actors.” While he had earlier said that he would love to work with Depp again in the future, this statement suggests that the makers are planning to introduce a new cast with the next installment in the franchise.
