Jackie Chan has been known around the world for his iconic movies involving martial arts, kung fu, and a comedic theme to accompany them. Known for doing his own stunts, Chan has starred in over 150 films throughout his career and continues to do so.
Back in the day before Chan was famous, he was an extra in battle scenes. Dreaming about being a stuntman rather than an actor, Jackie Chan would often be the dead guy in scenes. The director loved Chan so much that he called the Rush Hour actor, “the best corpse”.
Jackie Chan Was The Best Corpse
Chan was once told by his first love’s father that he would never amount to anything. With his dream to be the greatest stuntman ever, Jackie Chan entered the world of films and found it very hard to kickstart his career.
Back in 2015, the actor wrote about his life in his memoir titled Never Grow Up. Describing his life, Chan talked about his initial days in Hollywood, cheating on his wife in 1999, and how he became what he is today, by never growing up. Portraying the role of a dead body in battle scenes, The Karate Kid actor revealed that the director was once impressed by Chan’s ability to lie still.
“That guy is the best corpse, make sure we get him in tomorrow as well! [Chan was] now in demand as the best corpse in kung fu.”
Having a thirst for action scenes, Jackie Chan once admitted that he was told to go home and take a rest after he begged for multiple shoots for the classic 1998 film Rush Hour.
Jackie Chan Wanted More Action In Rush Hour
Being an actor born in Hong Kong, Chan had quite difficulty speaking the English language. This was especially a problem for the actor since he didn’t know how to speak fluent English on the sets of Rush Hour. Being disappointed with his action scenes, Chan revealed on Late Night Talks that he kept asking for more scenes and reshoots until the crew denied him the privilege.
“They said, ‘No more action, as we have no enough time and you have to go home and sleep. I said, ‘I want to work more.’ They said, ‘No, union work, union rule.'”
Although the filming was unpleasant for the actor, Chan managed to find fame uncountable as the actor starred in greater and bigger movies throughout his Hollywood career. With 149 movies to his name, Jackie Chan is currently attached to 7 other upcoming projects. Rush Hour is available to rent on Apple TV+ in the U.S.
